As Gowanus continues to evolve, it is our aim to become a pillar of responsible manufacturing that will be here for a generation to come; a place where patrons become new neighbors in an old neighborhood.
We are NOT asking your help to build our brew house. That's done and up and running.
Our project, with your help, is to turn our empty asphalt lot into a vibrant green space in the middle of our manufacturing neighborhood. We want to build an outdoor garden filled with trees and plants. We want to construct a massive trellis to grow ivy and hops. We want to create a living space for everyone to eat, drink, and enjoy each other’s company. We've started the foundation of this project and now we need your help.
In order to do this, we need about $20,000 to make this dream a reality. The itemized rundown of the proceeds will go towards paying for the following:
- 16' x 45' steel trellis
- 3 Hornbeam trees, 6-8' each
- 2 Apple Trees, 5-7' each
- Wisteria or Trumpet Vine, 7 gal.
- Staked Ivy, 3 gal.
- Boston Ivy, 1 gal.
- Lace Vine, 1 qt
- Seasonal flowers/herbs, 10 cases
- Soil and amendments
- Irrigation system
Risks and challenges
As a manufacturing business, we rely on heavy duty machinery, as well as significant infrastructure for mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. While we did invest quite a bit of time and money into these systems, there is always room for error, which could hurt our business and therefore, our yard.
The retail facing part of our business has the same risks as any small neighborhood business - high rents, competition, etc.
We think that building an amazing green hub within our community will provide a much needed space for our neighborhood while also acting a symbol for responsible manufacturing in our area.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
