THE WORD ON HAND-BREWED BEER
Hand-Brewed Beer creates fine, hand-crafted ales that represent our love of bold choices, the adventurous outdoors, and damn good beer. Located in the west San Fernando Valley in the craft-brew haven of Southern California, our beers have strong flavors and follow the "west coast" trend of a fully-hopped profile. We began brewing almost 8 years ago, creating different brews to share with our friends. Our love for beer-making grew with each brew, and over the past 3 years we've been refining several recipes that cover the full gamut of beer styles and flavors. Now, with our brew equipment, business plan, and our unique and delicious recipes in line, we're ready for a home!
WHO WE ARE AND WHERE WE ARE FROM
Being natives of the northwest region of Los Angeles county has enabled our connection with nature, and it's that connection that continually inspires what we make and how we express ourselves through our beer. With a talent for taste and our unique recipe design, we've been able to incorporate local flora into our beers to evoke unique, local flavors that aren't yet available in the craft-brewing world. We're ready to share these flavors with the west San Fernando Valley (to infinity and beyond would be great, too!)
ANYWAY, BACK TO OUR HUMBLE REQUEST
Over the years we've been brewing out of our personal homes, sharing our beer, and refining our techniques. Hand-Brewed Beer currently has a 1.5 barrel custom built pilot-system with (2) 60-gallon conical fermenters. With our investors we are negotiating on a lease for a small space to begin brewing and distributing to bars in the Los Angeles area, building the Hand-Brewed Beer name and reputation. We are planning to be in a space by November 2013 to begin all construction and renovation to ready ourselves for the inspection and licensing process.
HBB is seeking a Type-23 Small Beer Manufacturer license; this allows up to 60,000 barrels per year (not quite possible yet, but man that would be cool!) the ability to self-distribute wholesale, and to serve tasters pints and growlers in our tap room.
Our investors capital will cover our rent and leasehold improvements, your pledges will help us to create a real HBB home.
PLEDGE GOAL INCLUDES...
- Help with acquiring a cold room storage.
- Building a bar top and tap wall for our tasting room.
- And buying kegs for distribution.
SOME OF THE BEERS WE PRODUCE
Erudite Wit – 5.2% ABV, 25 IBU
This beer is brewed with pilsner malts and flaked wheat. Hopped with Cascade and liberty hops. Spices include coriander seeds, sweet and bitter orange peels, and white pepper.
Deez Nuts Brown Ale – 5.8% - 6.0% ABV, 45 IBU
A beer so nutty, it could only have been brewed up by a couple of real squirrels. Brewed with Biscuit and Special Roast malts, Hand-Brewed Beer has crafted an American Brown Ale that balances its hop and malt profile with a burly bite worthy of the often injurious aficionado, common referred to as a nut.
The VRB Porter - 10% ABV, 40 IBU
A smooth porter that is infused with Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans, fresh raspberries, and actual Kentucky bourbon. One of our most popular beers! You gotta taste it to believe it.
Incident Isotope IPA – 7.6% ABV, ~100 IBU
What happens when our brew-master creates a recipe and hands it off to his assistant? Brilliance apparently! Originally intended to be a strong imperial IPA, but a little extra water and a little miscalculation on boil time made Incident Isotope IPA a refreshing, dry-hopped ale that we have craftily-refined and recreated into one of our favorite beers.

Risks and challenges
Currently we are not in our planned space but with our investors, HBB is negotiating on a lease and plan to be in a space in November 2013. Through the myriad of inspectors, permits and licenses, and tons of paperwork, the path to opening a brewery is tough. Reaching our pledge goal will be a very helpful fraction of the funds that we are planning to need. Any start-up business has risks as it improves leaseholds and awaits government permission to operate. Smart budgeting and penny-wise purchases will allow Hand-Brewed Beer to endure and prosper.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
