Album Progress: sharing a new recording
Hello, generous backers. We have been silent a long time, but the new "Friend in the Dark" album project is alive and well, and we're delighted to share a freshly finished new track with you today: the three part version of Fall, recorded using the new superior equipment we were able to purchase thanks to your Kickstarter donations.
This track will appear on our new album "Friend in the Dark" when it's released (which we still hope will happen this summer) but we wanted to share it with you early.
As for overall progress, we have started on several more new recordings, but are quite a bit behind where we had hoped to be at this point. There have been two big setbacks. The first is the bad one: we were driven from our home by a fire at the end of February. Thankfully none of us was hurt (and no books were damaged!) but we're still living in temporary housing and wrangling construction and insurance, so we haven't had much time to record, or access to a good recording space. Construction looks like it should finish by June, but meanwhile we are cramming what recording and editing we can into odd corners of time (and space).
A second happier setback is that Ada's first science fiction novel Too Like the Lightning is coming out May 10th. The flurry of reviews, reactions and invitations to write blog pieces to go with the release has been wonderful (delightfully so!) but also overwhelming, and demanded tons of extra work in the months leading to the release. This means there are lots of fun new Ada blog posts for you to enjoy, in venues like the Tor/Forge blog and SF Signal, but, alas, less music.
In happier news, we're excited to announce that Sassafrass: Trickster & King (i.e. Ada and Lauren) will be the North American Guests of Honor at next year's Rainbowcon in Seattle (April 28-30), and we have concerts coming up at Balticon 50 in May, and probably Midamericon in August. Since Balticon has been such a special home for us for so long, throughout the Sundown project as well as before and after, Ada is planning to hold the the launch party for Too Like the Lightning there (with special cake!) as a big thank-you to the fan community which has been such a big part of our lives. We hope to see many of you there!
We are very grateful for your patience and support as we get through this simultaneously wonderful (book!) and difficult (fire!) period. We still hope to get the CD done soon, perhaps in August or September, though our original deadline of July seems unlikely now. Meanwhile we hope you'll enjoy today's new track as a down payment, and we look forward to sharing more updates in the coming months.
