Hero: Tales of the Tomes is a multiplayer card game in which each player takes on the role of a legendary hero and battles it out until only one is left standing.
The game plays like a competitive card game, but without the extra baggage that sometimes comes with them. With Hero, no deck building or collecting is required in order to play. Everything will come together in one complete package.
Each of the five heroes has a unique and powerful playstyle that will accommodate different types of players and offer endless replayability
Your hero levels up at the start of every round, gaining new abilities, increasing your power, and allowing you to play stronger cards.
One of the most unique aspects of Hero is that all of the players play off of one, massive shared deck.
With no need for prior deck building or collecting, you can just grab a few friends, sit down, and play a game. Everything you need comes in one package.
Hero: Tales of the Tomes offers a fresh and new experience to the competitive card game genre. Supporting 2-5 players with three different modes of play, the game will continue to give you new ways to explore and have fun
Over 14 months I created the 150+ illustrations used throughout the game and on the cards.
I tried to create a rich and vibrant fantasy environment inspired by the games and worlds that I know and love.
Every game of Hero begins with each player choosing their hero. Unique and powerful, each hero has a playstyle that will appeal to everyone differently.
Your hero is not simply a persona to play as. Each one can attack and use powerful abilities that shape the game. Your goal is to defeat the other heroes and be the last one standing. If your hero dies, you lose.
At the start of every round (the first player’s turn), your hero levels up, gaining new abilities, increasing your power, and allowing you to play stronger cards.
On even levels, your hero will gain new abilities. Ability cards are double-sided, giving you a strategic choice between which ability you want when the time comes. On odd levels, your hero will become stronger, gaining more attack, mana, or armor.
Once everyone has a hero, an opening hand of 5 cards will be dealt to each player. The game will then continue with all the players playing off of the same shared deck.
Here are the different cards you will come across in a game:
Companions are the allies you’ll call to your hero’s side. As soon as your hero is equal to or higher than the level of your companion, you'll be able to play it.
Companions can attack, defend, and have powerful abilities. They will be a key part of any player’s victory.
Equipment cards are the weapons you’ll forge to aide you in battle. Just like with companions, you’ll be able to play these cards as soon as your hero meets the level requirement.
Equipment goes directly onto your hero and will provide them with bonus attributes and abilities.
Spells are the magic your hero will cast. Spells have some of the most devastating and game changing effects available.
Buff spells can only be played on companions and will stay with them until they are killed.
Quick-cast spells are lightning fast spells that can be used whenever you want and on any player’s turn.
Quests are scenario cards with distinctive card backs that have no cost involved.
When a quest appears at the top of the deck, it immediately activates and all the players take part in it.
Using your hero and companions to attack, as well as turning the battle with powerful spells and abilities, your goal will be to knock out the other heroes by reducing their health to 0. Be the last one standing, and victory will be yours!

Risks and challenges
Even though this is my first Kickstarter campaign, the game and all art assets are completely finished and ready for the printer. Of course, there is always the potential for delays in production, shipping, and customs as the game is printed in China. However, I fully believe that this printer will allow us to make the best possible version of the game.
Delivery is expected in April 2019. You will be updated immediately if I foresee any changes in that delivery date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
