About this project
Ultimate Weapon is an action packed web series following two deadly assassins on a routine assignment that turns into a worldwide battle to protect an ancient weapon of unspeakable power.
Ultimate Weapon is an exciting mix of action, mythology, and comedy. Inspired by the video game, Assassins Creed, the original short film was the winner of the Assassins Creed Short film contest, sponsored by Ubisoft and the Independent Film Channel. With critical acclaim from popular gamer sites like Kotaku and nationwide distribution on IFC, the proving grounds for launching a web series has been set.
At the center of our series are our “antiheroes” and professional assassins: Kyle Maddox and Kenneth Devonte. Their deadly and sinister natures are offset by a unique camaraderie and comedic banter that somehow balances the audience's perception of their otherwise ruthless killing nature. They immediately encounter Serena Parnett, a beautiful and dangerous woman who quickly proves to be much more than she seems.
A myriad of killing missions are placed on Maddox and Devonte, revealing new characters and plot twists that move them into the unwanted position of becoming the target. Each season will build like a crescendo, where the episodes lead towards something bigger, culminating in an explosive season finale. By blending ancient warfare with modern day historical references and technology, Ultimate Weapon will engage audiences week to week.
The action in the series will be hard hitting, combining brutal kung-fu with modern and medieval weaponry. Visually stunning sequences and equally stunning female co-stars help bolster the intrigue around this action/adventure
Ultimate Weapon is the product of series co-creators JOEL POEHLMANN and GREG WENDELL REID, two actor/writer/producers who are natives of Los Angeles (who both happen to be avid gamers and action movie lovers). You man recognize Greg from his multiple television and comedy appearances, including CSI Miami, Young and the Restless, and Comics Unleashed, to name a few. Joel created his own production company at 19 and has worked for over a decade in independent production. He wrote, produced, and starred in his first feature film at the ripe age of 21 and hasn't looked back. And with a completed full length novel under his belt, the Ultimate Weapon series is just a taste of what Joel is serving up.
For the series, they’re joined by the beautiful (and admittedly geeky) AMERICA YOUNG, writer/producer of her own web series and 2012 Comic Con panelist; seasoned actor DAMION POITIER (Star Trek, Black Dynamite, Avengers); top industry fight choreographers and stunt teams who will help bring Ultimate Weapon’s dynamic action to life; and special guest stars from popular television shows and films (and in true assassin form, we'll spring these special guest stars on you when you least expect it).
Inspired by the classic serials, each episode begins with narrated exposition that sets the tone and brings the audience up to speed. The narration is accompanied by the stunning and imaginative illustrations of the amazingly gifted artist, DZOAN HO. Dzoan combines influences ranging from traditional cartoon animation to anime into a distinctly unique style that is all his own. Dzoan’s drawings come to life each week as his illustrations transition into live action and the episode begins.
We filmed the pilot episode for the Assassin’s Creed short film contest that was cosponsored by Ubisoft and the Independent Film Channel. We shot the entire episode on a shoestring budget of 800 dollars (you read the right, 800 dollars. That was it!), and called in a ton of favors from friends in the industry. Our efforts paid off; we were named the winners of the contest and are determined to continue the story.
We were able to accomplish so much with an extremely limited budget and the generosity of friends. As we continue the story, we are expanding our vision and want to ensure that we put the money on the screen. Your donation is going to fund visual effects artists, professional stunt teams, art and costume departments, name actors, securing locations, seasoned camera operators, and all the other components necessary to create a visually stunning and exciting action series. You’ve seen what we can accomplish with practically nothing—just imagine what we can do with an actual budget!
Our first season is set with six brand new episodes that take place immediately following the events of the pilot. Should your generous donations help us exceed our season one target of $30,000, then all additional funds will go towards pre-production and shooting of season two (which is already in development) as well as improving the quality of the visual effects throughout the series.
We are a unique trope of talented and ambitious entertainers who are native to the city of Los Angeles and have grown up surrounded and immersed in the movie industry. We’re taking our love of action movies, martial arts, and video games and combining them into an original and exciting series, but we can only realize this action-packed vision with the support of people like you. We’re also unique in that we’re in this industry not seeking fame and fortune, but because we share a love of storytelling and entertaining others, and the medium of film is and always has been a special and engaging format for us. Every cent of money that’s donated to this project is going onto the screen and not towards pointless excesses like lavish trailers or gourmet catering. The chance to share this story with a massive audience would be a blessing and we humbly thank you for taking the time to read into what we’re all about. We hope that this is just the beginning...
Risks and challenges
Ultimate Weapon will face the typical risks associated with an action film production: personal injury, bad weather, divalicious actresses… but by always planning ahead, staying intensely organized, and backed by full production insurance and a production/stunt team with years of professional experience, we know that we can deal with any complication in stride. Coming from an independent background, we know how to maximize our time on set, continuously shooting footage, and turning it around quickly. We’ve worked on so many projects where we had little to no money that we know how to stretch a dollar and will put all of our donations to good use where they belong: on the screen. Our dedication to meeting deadlines extends to our backers and we will use all of our resources to ensure that all backers are rewarded in a timely manner according to our production schedule. We will keep our backers in the loop with weekly production video logs that will show them tons of exclusive behind the scenes content, from previsualization to post-production. We’ve been able to accomplish some remarkable things with practically nothing, and now we have the chance to do it again with a full budget. The possibilities are very exciting.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
