What is Toypocalypse? Toypocalypse is a pencil and paper RPG. In Toypocalypse, players play as sentient toys in an ominous world where humans have mysteriously vanished. No one knows where the humans have gone, but everything has been left in place, and the toys have been left to pick up the pieces.
Powerful toys have created oppressive and tyrannical governments to rule the scraps. The players can no longer suffer the oppression of these hastily formed governments. Danger lies around every corner, and exploration of this new world drives each toy to find his place in a world where he is alone.
Become a toy in a world very much like Toy Story meets Lord of the Flies.
Toypocalypse was the winner of the RPG Geek 24-Hour RPG 2011 contest and was written by Trevor Christensen.
Toypocalypse Falls is an introductory campaign and adventure setting for Toypocalypse. This PDF is intended to not only provide a campaign to play with your group but also to provide you an outline that you can use to create your own campaign settings. The PDF is a small 20-25 page PDF much in the same vein as the base game Toypocalypse. Toypocalypse Falls was written collaboratively between Trevor Christensen and Josh Wheeler.
This campaign setting is a framework for you to create a chapter in a greater campaign for your players where this town and its factions continue their goals and your players become a major force in pioneering the freedom of the toys of The Falls. Contained within this book are the factions, motivations, locations, and plot hooks that should get you started.
The Falls are remains of a small town in north-west section of the North American continent. Before the Great Dawning it was within the borders of the United State of Idaho, but now its only borders are the divides between the unsettled wastelands and the bastion of civilized toys that still live at its center. Unlike many cities in the Toypocalypse world this one enjoys the luxury of electricity thanks to a hydro-electric dam being maintained by the city’s oppressive government.
The town is ruled by Centaur Alpha, a strange conglomeration of a toy, who rules with a quasi-deified plastic fist. His minions keep the dam powering the city functional and repress the toys who could someday oppose his rule. There are many other factions that make up the small community of The Falls, each of them opposing Centaur Alpha and his cruelty in their own ways.
Where and how your PCs fit into the setting is up to you, as well as how they fit into the overall goals of each of the factions. Find the plot lines and hooks within the story that you find most interesting and decide how those plots will relate to the PCs. Let the PCs interact with those plots and adjust the responses of the factions accordingly.
The money raised with the kickstarter will go towards paying the editor, the map artist, and the layout costs. We are making a pretty small PDF so our costs are pretty small but the funds are still necessary to get the project off the ground. This project and its predecessor have been labors of love so really all we hope for is to cover our costs, anything beyond that would just be amazingly wonderful and appreciated.
Downloads of the product will be made available through DriveThruRPG. You will receive a download voucher and if you do not already have a DriveThruRPG account you will need to create one to receive your finished product.
Nuts and Bolts Backers
Backers of the Nuts and Bolts ($35 pledge level) will receive a hand bound copy of both Toypocalypse and Toypocalypse Falls in one book. This is very much a collectors item that will never be recreated or published this way again. Each will be individualized with no two being alike. The hand bound book will be intentionally rough to represent the grim feeling of the setting, and may even use old toy boxes to create the cover.
Here is an image of what your hand bound copy of the Toypocalypse set may look like:
Toy Tyrant Backers
Two lucky backers will have the opportunity to play Toypocalypse Falls with the creators Trevor and Josh. We will set up a time with the two backers and using Skype and a virtual table top we will play a one night session of Toypocalypse Falls with you and Josh as your co-party member and Trevor as your GM.
The Great Crafter
One and only one of you will get to be a part of the Toypocalypse Falls mythos. As the Great Crafter you will provide us with a character profile and back-story that Josh will use to create a short story to be put in the back of Toypocalypse Falls. Your character will become part of the legend of The Falls.
If the project hits $1000 we will add another small self contained adventure only for Kickstarter backers: "The Tomb of the Purple Crayon"
If the Project hits $̶2̶0̶0̶0̶ $1500 we will provide B&W character sketches for all contributors of $35 or more (regardless of reward chosen). Stretch Goal Lowered!
