Your mind isn't boring so why should your notes or thoughts be jotted down into a boring notebook?
I make Polymer Clay Journals and I try to make them 'cool'. I love bringing peoples ideas to life and using Polymer Clay I make their journals and note books have imagination and inspire inspiration.
I discovered Polymer Clay about 2 years ago and I began making charms for jewellery. I slowly moved onto journals as I love originality and being different. You could not go to a shop and buy journals and notebooks like these. I love when people ask me to make specific journals because I bring their ideas to life.
I put my heart and soul into every journal and I think my journals make perfect gifts for anyone. They are interesting and different which is how every person should portray themselves. Each journal is handmade and unique. No two are the same. Polymer clay is a soft clay to begin with and then you manipulate it to the shapes you want. You then bake it in a normal oven and it bakes until it is hard.
What also makes my journals unique is that I use beads and charms on some of them to make them more special than they already are. They are coloured using Mica Powders (which is practically make up) to give them that colourful shimmery look. Sometimes I don't need to use Mica Powders though as polymer clay comes in a range of different colours. I use glass pebbles and acrylic paint for the eyes on the dragon journals.
I use random bits and bobs around my home from toothbrushes and nettings to create the different textures.
I love making original work and also fan art. It tests my skills and the quality of my work.I like to constantly push myself and if something isn't right i will do it again and again until it is right.
Why do I need help?
I'll be honest. This is something I absolutely love to do and I hope to do it full time but right now I am a full time student at university completing my final year and it can be quite expensive buying the supplies. I have come up with the opportunity to sell my journals in a craft cafe but to sell them I need to make them and to make them I need supplies. Arts and crafts is my thing and after making these for the past 6 months I couldn't imagine doing anything else ( I know cheesy right? But it's true) and I hope to hopefully one day move onto making jewellery and many other things but that's another story!
Right now I just need to be able to buy supplies to make my journals and I would also like a good quality camera so that I can photograph them in high quality without using my iPhone.
I want to hopefully sell online with good quality pictures and be able to take orders without worrying if I need to order supplies or not.
I will also use the camera to record video as I want start my own YouTube channel with tutorials on how to make things with polymer clay. I have a video tutorial on youtube which shows you how to make a polymer clay flower which you can see here:
It has received over 9000 views and I want to make my own you tube channel sharing my knowledge of polymer clay with others and I hope to have a series. I have had so many people asking for tutorials on my journals but I don't have the equipment to do it. I made this video using a camera from university and it was actually for an assignment! Video Production is one of my skills learned at university so I'm comfortable with filming and editing.
Having to manage university and making my journals just makes me want to do it even more and to be able to have the supplies and my camera all set up for when i leave would be amazing.
Risks and challenges
A major risk is time and development. It can take a long time to make and finish a journal (a dragon one for example). Trying to make journals whilst also doing University work can be a pain. I have started writing down schedules of when I need to do work and when I can make journals. I make sure things get done by a specific time/day. All journals are created by me so time management is something I need to always keep an eye on. I have never missed an order and every person has always received their journals when they need/want it.
A challenge will be completing everyone's rewards through here if I manage to get my funding! It's going to be hard but exciting and I look forward to it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
