The Patent Pending RevPen is an elegant solution to a habit we all have. Fidgeting. We've all seen those crazy looking Fidget Spinners but how many of us are willing to pull one out in the middle of a meeting?
The RevPen is a light, durable, and revolutionary everyday carry pen that also doubles as a fidgeting toy for adults. Able to spin about the axis, the RevPen's sleek design won't look out of place while being used as a pen or as a spinner. Equipped with high-quality Japanese ink and made from high-grade aluminum, the bolt-action RevPen is bound to turn heads.
What materials are the RevPen made of?
Every component on the RevPen with the exception of the bearings, ink cartridge and spring are made from 6000 series aircraft grade aluminum.
What colors will be available at launch?
As of now, we're offering 4 color configurations:
- Silver with "gold" ink carrier
- Black with "gold" ink carrier
All coloring is done via an electrolytic passivation process called anodizing. In addition to giving the RevPen it's durable finish, anodizing also significantly improves the RevPen's corrosion resistance.
Will there be additional colors? There is a high probability that we will introduce some sort of grey/pewter color in the future. We're open to exploring other color options but are hoping the community could help us pick a color combination they'd like to see. Comment and let us know what you'd like to see!
Is it hard to spin? How big is the pen? Spinning the pen with two hands (one hand holding the pen, and the other spinning the tip) is very easy. The pen is 3.9" long and about 0.5" in diameter, so it is designed to spin in even the smallest of hands.
One handed operation as seen in the video can usually be mastered within the first 15-60 minutes of playing with the pen.
Tell me more about the other components.
The RevPen uses commercially available OHTO 4C7NP ink cartridges that can be easily replaced. The spring mechanism is made from quality stainless steel and the bearings are hybrid-ceramic silicone nitride bearings with stainless steel rings and cages.
Are there any plans for a plastic version of the RevPen?
We really want to introduce a less expensive, plastic version of the RevPen for our backers. If funding permits (stretch goal) and there is a genuine interest, we plan to produce a plastic version, but we cannot comment on what pricing will look like. Expect more information on this within the first 2 weeks of the campaign.
Risks and challenges
Since this will be our 4th Kickstarter, we've developed a great production, inspection, and fulfillment process that we are proud to say has resulted in THOUSANDS of happy backers. We pride ourselves on always sticking to our production schedule, and delivering a quality product.
But, as with any mass-produced metallic products, the largest challenge will be maintaining consistent quality throughout production. To help mitigate quality issues, we plan to visit our supplier in person mid-production and run through a quality inspection procedure so any sub-par product can be filtered out efficiently. Lastly, in addition to production-level quality checks, we'll be inspecting each of these pens again prior to shipment.
We're still learning about the world of injection molded polymers (plastics) but we're teaming up with some established facilities to help consult with our mold designs. It is possible that plastic RevPens will ship a few weeks later than the metallic RevPens, but we will clarify this in future updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
