The world had changed since The Coming. It is now an arid desolate place where technology and society failed. A world where each rain drop and even each breath taken could kill, slowly. Each day is a struggle for survival against the Aspects roaming the barren lands feeding on themselves and on people. Mankind has been evicted from the top of the food chain for centuries and is constantly on the brink of extinction. For Io, this world is all she had ever known. For the red-eyed hunter the survival of the Den is all that matters. However; when she abandons the Den pursued by her legacy, the Den’s power-hungry elder and her own mind, she takes the path to exile and to the truth. But when she finally faces her fate she may have to realise that the Aspects are not her only worries. There are events in motion that she can’t possibly know. If she manages to stay alive for a while, she may find an ally and get the chance to learn that The Coming was only the beginning...
The above is the summary description of my unfinished story, currently available on Wattpad http://www.wattpad.com/myworks/3561261-the-coming. It was originally supposed to be part of a trilogy but I have finally decided to write a trilogy plus a fourth book that will serve as a prequel to the story. Furthermore, The entire story will be part of an expanded universe of more than 12 interconnected (to a greater or lesser extent) story-lines.
This project, however, is about the first book, "The Coming". I have completed so far 18 chapters of what I believe will be a total of 30 in the book. I have published the unedited versions on Wattpad but I am currently on a hiatus as I had to work longer hours in order to keep up with my financial obligations.
My aim is to attempt and attract the necessary funding in order to finance the completion and editing of the book, as well as establish a system of self-publishing that will include an "ad-hoc" printing solution. A portion of the funding will also be diverted into polishing the graphic-art material and the rest of the contents of the rewards that I have set up.
I love writing this story and I am already making my plans on the plots for the rest of the story-lines. Any funding that would allow me to embark upon this wonderful journey will definitely be put to good use.
The proposed budget target was estimated from the following parameters:
Six months funding for the completion of the story @ £3,000
Editing of around 100,000 words of the completed story @ £900
Contracting of the graphic-art and story-lines flowchart @ £900
Setting-up a printing-on-demand service @ £2,000
Estimated costs of producing and shipping all rewards @ £2,500
Contingency / emergency budget (10% of the above) @ £950
Service fees (5% of the above) @ £510
Payment fees (5% of the above) @ £510
VAT (about 2% of the above) @ £200
UK Income Tax (around 20%) @ £2,300
Total budget target: £13,770
Please note that if (by means of divine intervention or otherwise...) the project manages to gather 125% of the original budget target, then I will produce an additional fourth part to the story!
I intend to provide monthly updates on the progress of the project through this page and by monthly emails to my backers. Furthermore, once I finish writing each chapter, an unedited version will be uploaded on my Wattpad account. If you follow my story on Wattpad then you will receive real-time updates as new chapters will become available.
Risks and challenges
The rate-limiting factor for writing this book has been so far the absence of free time. I have had to work very long hours over the last few months, and I was unable to dedicate enough time to the story. If I can finance the time required to finish my story over the next few months then I am very confident that I will be able to deliver the final product even before the deadlines I have set up.
My head is full of story plots and twists for this and the other stories I want to write so imagination and available plot-material are not an issue. Simply put, the more time I can dedicate to the book the faster I will finish. I have calculated the amount of funding that I will require in order to free-up the necessary time to write and this figure has been included into the final funding request, taking into account relevant fees as well as the costs for the production of the rewards.
I envisage that I will finish the writing by the second quarter of 2015. Then, have the book edited around the third quarter while I will be setting up the rest of the rewards and the on-demand printing solution. I should then be able to start releasing the rewards by the end of 2015 and onwards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
