Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name?
Good Morning Glorious Backers and Curious Onlookers,So you might have guessed from the title of the adventure that Hell features prominently. Whether in very real (as in the adventure places the characters in Hell physically) or just a metaphorical way (i.e. the events of the adventure will lead the characters to Hell after/when they die) you’ll have to find out when you read the full adventure.
Initially he wasn’t in the very first draft of the adventure, since another devil is the main protagonist, and the Hell that’s the focus of the adventure isn’t even Lucifer’s’ (again I’ll not go into that here and spoil the surprise, but I’ll just say its Dr Dee’s fault, and Lucifer is mightily angry about it). But then Dan Barker did a picture for the main antagonist in one of the adventures in the recently published Tournaments of Madness and Death, which didn’t quite meet the art direction for that piece but fitted visual concept of what I had in mind for Lucifer. So with a few tweaks here he is.
Don’t worry I won’t be showing sympathy for the devil. Lucifer will be the full-fat devious lord of lies, great adversary, despoiler of all that is good and holy in the fine tradition of Hammer Horror films like the Devil Rides In.
One of the things I’ll be putting in the back of the book as an Appendix will be a full-on Deities and Demigods style write up of him. But don’t worry he won’t be a pushover. One of his names from his early middle-eastern origins is Phosphor, and you don’t want to be around when he brings down that particular type of fire down in his immediate area.
More previews (both art and content) coming in the weeks ahead.
