Post Furnace report
Well, the Mandate had its first full outing as a three table game at Furnace games convention last month. It went smoothly, despite it being our first run with all three cities running in parallel. I ran the Ten Courts of Hell, and it was just as gruesome and horrific as I had hoped, while still keeping the humorous (if somewhat black in tone) side of Monkey.
Behold the Hall of Games! Mandate
Half-way through we stopped and had an intermission filled with snacks!
So in terms of getting the book in your hands after this game, I now have a 15 pre-made characters and three adventures which I will polish up, and add additional text to over the coming months. Here are some of the stunning character pieces that Dan Barker has done for the pre-made characters.
This is Inevitable Sunshine who is based in the Western Heaven. Born from the morning sun’s rays, Inevitable pierces the night’s darkness and heralds in the day. Inevitable joined the Ministry of Time where she fulfils a vital role in making sure that night transitions smoothly into day. She also shines a light on mysteries where darkness has hidden the truth. She wears yellow robes and carries the Water Clock of the Dawn.
From the Ten Courts of Hell here is the sinister looking Horse that Rots. Once a magical horse who died because of his owner’s neglect, Horse is embittered against all humans. Usually, he pulls the chains that that rip apart prisoners in the Chamber of Tearing Chains 5th Court of Hell. On the rare occasion that human escapes one of the courts, he is called upon to join the band of hunters, where his swift hooves allow him to catch his prey quickly. His Judge, King Yanluo of the 5th Court gave him a horsewhip of pain to keep his prisoners under control. Horse that Rots is cursed with the form of a human body, dressed in elegant robes, and a rotting horse head. In his hand, he holds the burning Horse Whip of Pain.
I’m still working on the main rules, which holds up this Kickstarter, but I’m now more or less art complete with the text currently going through editorial. I’m aiming to have this in backer’s hands before or just after Christmas. I’d imagine the Mandate will be ready in late January in pdf form at least.
More progress reports next month.
