FTL: Early May Update

Hello again, wonderful backers.

We've been working as hard as possible on getting the game 'feature-complete' during the past few weeks.  However, we finally found some time to make a new gameplay video!  In it, I describe the new features we've been adding; show off another player-ship and its unique strategy; talk about the progress of the beta and much more!

Check it out at Vimeo.

(It will also be on YouTube soon, but it's refusing to let me upload for now.)

In addition, as warning to our Beta backers, it's likely that the beta won't be able to start in May.   Your overwhelming donations has meant that we were able to expand our goals for FTL, making it bigger and better in almost every way.  However, that also means it will take more time to prepare.  Just know that we will do everything in our power to get it to you as soon as possible!

Head over to our forums if you would like to talk about the video or join our small (but growing) community.

I agree with not rushing the game and working on polishing up the finished produce, but would love to get some beta game play in while we wait.

Same as everyone else. You've got something really special here, don't mess it up. $200k should be plenty to develop the game for quite a bit longer with your team size.

I'll happily await a quality game over getting it sooner

Im happy to wait until its ready, dont rush it, this game has the potenital to be something very special.

I didn't back at the beta level, but I think everyone was expecting you to take much longer than initially anticipated with the game based on the level of funding you received.

You have 200K (less fees) to put into this game if you need to. Clearly, it will take more time to take advantage of the higher-than-expected capital available to you now.

We have lots of games to play. We'll wait for you to do the best job you think you can, and we'll be that much happier for having a more polished game.

Please take extra time to add features. Seriously! We can do a beta any time.

    7. Omegaclawe on May 4, 2012

I wouldn't have been able to play it in May, anyway. In fact, if it doesn't start until July, I'll be perfectly fine with that... :P

Seconding William's comment with the addition of "Better late than never" (not that I perceive this as anywhere near a concern at this point).

On a personal note, I don't know if this has been mentioned before but for those of us that might be playing on a laptop without a mouse a slower game speed is really nice to have since it allows you to manage things that would otherwise be disastrous due to lower inherent mouse accuracy or a missed click or three.

      Enjoying the updates guys, thanks.

Better is always preferred over faster

      Music is great too!

Looks so awesome. Don't stress about release date, we know you guys are working hard and would love to see a great game over a rushed game!

    13. Vivimord on May 4, 2012

Do a Blizzard, take your time and make it as perfect as you can. ;0)

      (Although maybe not that long.)

Take. Your. Time. Better but Later will always be preferable to Worse but Soon.

We have all the time in the world, so don't feel the need to rush. I'm sure I'm not the only one currently backlogged with other games to play in the meantime, anyway. ;)

I will happily wait for it to be improved. Can't really complain about a delay caused by to much money to make the game better.

I love that the music is dynamic! I was worried that it would be on the back burner. Everything is looking fantastic, guys. Keep up the awesome work.

Guess it means I'll have more time to play Diablo III when that comes out now. =)

    19. Nori on May 3, 2012

Wait, what? Not start in May? but, but, but, ah man... Oh well. :(

Excited for the beta to release. Worth the what I'm sure!

I'll always prefer a great game later over a good game now. Take your time and keep up the good work!
