FTL: 2 days left + the 3rd video!

Hi everybody!

There are only two days left until our Kickstarter ends!  It has been an emotional ride and we wanted to thank you all.  Your support has been incredibly validating and we're looking forward to finishing up the game to get it to you as soon as we can. 

We've made a 3rd gameplay video but it is unlike the previous two.  We realized that most people didn't get a chance to try the demo and may be confused about how the game functions.  This latest video is intended to introduce newcomers to FTL and give them a quick overview of the primary gameplay systems.  Check it out at either YouTube or Vimeo!

One last thing, Pikigeek was nice enough to interview us recently.  If you're interested in our history or thought processes it should be a good read.  EDIT: Link is down for now?

      Now at a certain point the pledges become advanced preorders, extra funding always well and good but expanding a game to far beyond it's intended scope can hurt a game, and lead to delays. the final goal of most kickstarter projects is to turn a profit and looks like this game is well on its too doing this.

      10K or not, the game may be delayed if the developers believe that they need more time (bugs, polish or some extra features that all the extra money has made possible with the added lack of publisher annoying them). All the extra money can fund post release content, patches, mod tools (if that is possible), hypothetical expansion pack(s) and the tranquility that they can work with dedication in their project(s) without worrying about the bills for the next month.

      A counter-point to BobFromReboot - about 6000 people have pledged $10 each for a release expected in August. They're probably looking forward to playing the game, and I think many of them would be pretty annoyed to be denied the chance to play it for another six months while the beta testers are having all the fun. Why not release a polished v1.0 in August, then start working on advanced shiny features with the extra money? That way would also avoid possible extra delays from increasing the scope of the game half-way through the project.

      I'm wondering the same thing.. if you only really "needed" $10 000 to cover the final costs of this game, and you plan on releasing in August, it seems like the rest of the funding will not be used towards making a better game. The funds you have raised so far is almost ten times what I make in a year. I don't think it would be acceptable to release in August, I'd rather have a super amazing game come out in January than have the same silly warp animation when switching sectors, or no added depth from the current builds.

      Huh. I didn't make that connection but maybe that is what they are. I had already seen that video, but those crew members didn't look like the smaller green crew members in the shop menu from the third video.

      I mean it's totally possible that in the store you just hire normal crew members, but the drone icon is what made me theorise that maybe they are drones that require power from a drone control system or some such.

      But obviously I'm just guessing here :P

      I wonder if this project can reach $200K before time runs out. It's so very close to that goal. I too am very excited about this project, and I can't wait for Beta to start. I'm really hoping that they can push the date forward for Beta, because I don't want to wait the entire month of April for this thing. Hell, I enjoyed the Alpha in OnLive which had much less implemented than what the videos show. Can't wait to be able to play it again.

      If you want to find out about the robot crew I suggest you take a peek at the gameplay video in the previous update to this, the gist of it is that they are good at fixing but weak at fighting.

      So I noticed when you opened the store that there was crew members listed that could be bought for scrap. Also there was a little icon in the corner that looked like the drone parts icon. I'm pretty sure this means android crew members! I wonder what the pros and cons of those are? :P

      Agreed, I can't wait to play this game, looks like the kinda thing I could spend untold hours playing.

      If any kind of modding is added after release, I'm adding the Klongon to the game. :p Watching the videos makes me feel that the Closed Beta is not close enough. How much for a "Closed Late Alpha"? :p

      The link posted here is the same one in their website ( I went directly there, used the search function (search: ftl), found their link to the interview (the same we have here), and, surprise, it's broken...
