We started this project with the simple goal of making a game that we ourselves would love to play. We did not imagine that so many other gamers would  feel as strongly about FTL as we do. We've received more pledges than we ever anticipated and the additional funds will allow us to greatly expand soundtrack/sound design and make sure the beta runs smoothly. We'll continue to look for more ways we can invest in the game without causing delays, and any excess funds will be used to continue bringing you games that we (and hopefully you) love. 

A small number of you have requested additional higher-tier rewards so we are adding a few.   However, we will not be adding additional slots to the $100 tier since that would devalue the "limited edition" rewards.

  • $80 -  Receive two game keys, two beta keys, digital soundtrack, PDF art-book & instruction manual, plus your name will be in the credits.
  • $2000 - One lucky backer will be able to help us create a new alien race!
  • $5000 - One amazingly generous backer will have an opportunity to hang with the developers in Shanghai, China! 

With these changes, keep in mind that: You can increase or decrease your pledge at any time during the Kickstarter.   There's still a month to go, so there will be plenty of time to change your mind.

We have a small announcement to make as well.  We have the first documented kill of the demo's "impossible" boss!  Congrats to our backer and Co-Editor-in-Chief at Voodoo Extreme, @Ohmwrecker!  A silly prize is already on its way.

      I think the More Stuff idea is great. The devs could release the game in August 2012 as planned and then just continue adding to it for a few months using the remaining extra funds. Steam updates make this process simple and the devs dont have to change the release date they planned and we get a deeper game at the end. Oh yeah, and thanks for the game - was glued to onlive and cant wait for the beta...

      I love and miss the aspect of economy management in these ganre games. I love that this game is focusing on the ship/crew management side of things. I would love to be able to plan out a flight plan or some way of determining what your next goal or job is in the game.... just like Mal did on the Firefly TV show. This could be something extra that you guys would work towards adding to gameplay.

      Completely agree with farmerboy. I appreciate sound design and all but adding more stuff would be fantastic.

      If there is one thing I'd like to see the money spent on, it is on more of EVERYTHING in the game. You should hire a stuff designer who only produces fancy encounters, more weapons, cooler ships and whatever else there is that only gets better in bigger numbers. ;-)

      I'm guessing by "PDF instruction manual" you perhaps mean a strategy guide or something of the sort? Because one of those would be a nice extra for generous backers, whereas a manual is something people commonly expect to come with the game.

      Although, to be fair, in this modern age tutorials capture most of that, and FTL doesn't sound enormously complicated to come to grips with.

      Woot, thanks for the mention! It was a proud moment, I had been trying to crack the "Impossible" ship since the demo came out. I never expected that there would be even more sectors to explore once achieved.

      Gahh I really struggled over whether or not to pay $100 when there were like 50 rewards remaining, I eventually pledged $40 then came back later that day to change it only to find that they were all sold out. Really regret not being one of the crew now.
