Not So Secret Garden will be my fourth solo album, and I’m really happy with it. I think it’s my most fully realised work to date. It includes a small host of collaborators, including folk singer Alasdair Roberts and piano savant Matthew Bourne (who actually plays cello as his contribution!) Singers Debbie Armour and Amanda Nizic, pianist Adam Stearns, guitarist Steven Cossar, violinist Yvonna Magda and kora player Will Newsome also add their invaluable input. You can hear Debbie, Steven and Will on the wee excerpt in the video.
The beautiful album cover is by Lindsey Carr (http://www.littlerobot.org.uk/) and grew out of conversations we had about pro-actively negotiating the world we live in and wanting things to be (realistically) better for people. Lindsey is recently returned from Dunkirk Refugee Camp, and this is definitely one of the factors that informs the album cover image.
I’m honoured to say that German label Red Wig (http://www.redwig.org/) and French label Mon Cul (http://moncul.org/) are releasing Not So Secret Garden on LP and download. The record has already been sent off to press, and we’re expecting the test pressings very soon.
I will be contributing towards the cost of manufacture.
In order to promote the record, I will tour extensively. I have a month long tour of Italy, France and Switzerland booked May-June this year, I have been invited to tour Japan in early August, Spain in September, northern and eastern Europe in October.
I am raising funds to help with touring costs (flights, haulage for my bass, rail passes, paying for drivers where the train is not possible) – it amounts to a lot of money.
The record is scheduled to be ready before my first European tour, which starts on May 10th.
The main reward is the LP (Vinyl) - this reward also gives you a downloadable version.
A signed limited edition giclee print of the cover art.
A tote bag designed by Spanish artist Elena Serrato
Risks and challenges
The record is already in manufacture. It is being overseen by Red Wig and they are going through Handle With Care/Optimal. So, the process is being overseen at both ends by highly skilled and experienced professionals. Red Wig and Mon Cul have extensive back catalogues of vital music, beautifully packaged, and Optimal are considered to be the ‘go to’ for quality vinyl pressings.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
