Frequently Asked Questions
No, this is not an official game, and is not canon. It is a fan made game, being made by and for fans of the original series. We have licensed the rights from Trilobyte to be able to legally produce and sell this game. Beyond that, we are not sanctioned by them in any way.Last updated:
We started the game in the fall of 2004. Up until 2008 we made great progress, but were too ambitious, and lost steam. We gradually let the game fall to the backburner for several years, and only picked it up again in the spring of 2015. By then, all of our source images, video, and code had become outdated, so everything is basically being done from scratch.
We hope to release the game by the end of 2015 or first quarter 2016.Last updated:
When we first began the game, it was intended as a freeware game, and was being made by volunteers. We relied on other jobs to allow us to create and develop the game but, as the game’s scope increased and the team became more and more attached to the 13th Doll we realized that it was no longer just an after work project. Thus, we approached Kickstarter to allow us to take the development process to the next level. A successful campaign means the team gets to create the quality game they have always wanted, and the fans get to experience the game they have been waiting for.Last updated:
Our team was formed under the idea that we would eventually mature into an independent studio. While completing The 13th Doll has always been our goal, our dream has never ended with a single release. We hope to grow into a studio that produces many emotional games. The 13th Doll is simply our first game, under the production company, Attic Door Productions.Last updated:
Is 40,000 Dollars enough of a budget to allow for a team to complete the game in an effective manner?
Not quite. We'll need 60 to properly fund the game through development. However, 40K gets us far enough that we can go into a bit of debt for the rest.Last updated:
The game allows free movement, which makes for a much more immersive experience! Don't fret tho - the game can be completely controlled with the mouse! Holding the right mouse button moves the player forward. Additionally, standard first person controls are in place - WASD or arrow keys move, and mouse looks around. Also - this gives us the potential for an Oculus Rift version! We think the control scheme and navigation make for a great gaming experience.
That said, we may include a "classic" mode, if there is enough interest! Let us know in the comments.Last updated:
YES! We should have made this more clear; we can't change tiers after they have backers tho!
All rewards include everything from lower tiers, with the exception of items that have names/portraits in the game. We consider each tier there to be an "upgrade" to lower tiers.
Any rewards with a custom name which will appear on a game object will replace the name in the lower tiers but will still include recognition in the game credits and on our website's backer wall. Example, If one opts for the "Brains in a Jar" reward, their name will not also appear "Etched in Stone". This also applies to the "Portrait in Game" reward. You will still get any of the other rewards but will only get your name/likeness in visible gameplay once!
$600+ Rewards: If you opt-in to any of the higher tiers you will receive both normal credit as a backer in game credits and on the website donor wall but, will not be included in other "naming" tiers which appear in the game. Instead, you will receive an additional special recognition in the game credits, unless of course you name a character after yourself instead of coming up with a new and original name. You will receive all other lower tiers beside the name-based ones, including the deluxe boxed version of the game.Last updated:
