Hello Everyone! My name is Sydney Sebastian and welcome to Sharks vs Mermaids. We are striving to create a fun, team oriented board game for all you lovely people to enjoy. The concept for this game was something I came up with while in college. Though it was a little rough I always hoped to turn Sharks vs Mermaids into a reality, four years later, here we are!
I would also like to dedicate this game to my Nanny (grandmother) who passed recently. She was always a huge supporter of mine and was truly excited to hear that we were working to create this game for real. I miss her everyday, but I know she would be happy to see what we have accomplished so far. With your help we can take this even further. Thank you so much for any help you can give us and we hope you enjoy this game of sunken treasure.
My name is Alphonso, This is my pilot attempt at helping friends work on their own projects, I have a grass roots start up, with the idea of helping creatives work on their own projects by any means necessary. As an artist I've always loved people getting together working on passion projects. With all the things that stop us from pursing those projects, Soliloquy try's to make sure you don't have to worry anything, but creating. Soliloquy Productions
Board Set Up
You need at least 4 players (2 Sharks & 2 Mermaids) and can play with a fifth person (as the pirate, because there is only one pirate). Once you have decided your teams, lay the sea board on a flat surface. Next, place a treasure of the Sea at each point of Starfish Island (the board). Place all your characters at the center of the board.
Sharks and Mermaids roll the numbered die to see who will go first. Whichever person rolls the highest wins. You need to alternate between the teams for each turn (example: Shark, mermaid, shark, mermaid, pirate). The pirate always goes LAST (since they have special moves to cause mayhem).
You must roll a “6” to escape the center of Starfish Island and make it to the Ocean Course. You can make your way out via any of the five exits.
Once you are on the course, you roll both dice to make your way around the board. If you land on a whirlpool you will be sent all the way back to the center of the island and will need to roll a “6” to get back out! Land on a Net and you are stuck for a turn.
You and your partner must work together to collect all the treasures of Starfish Island to claim victory. The combined booty between you and your partner will be your total score. If the other team gets to a treasure first, don't worry there will be plenty of chances to steal as you play on!
If you land on an opposing player while circling the board, you must do battle (if one or both of you have collected a treasure). You both must roll the numbered die, the stronger number wins and you can collect the losing persons treasure.
This is a single intricate six sided die with three different actions each symbol represents a different action,
A card means you need to pick up a crimp card (there are 4 card icons)
A net means stuck for one turn (there is one net icon)
SVM Logo Icon which means nothing happens (or house rule).
Note: do not roll this die, when on Starfish Island
Crimp cards are shuffled and placed on the board at the beginning of the game. Directions for each Crimp card are displayed on the face of the card. You only draw one card every time you roll a Crimp card using the challenge die, and discard it at the end of your turn (unless you are instructed otherwise by a card).
Pirate Rules (4 players)
The pirate will be played as a Non-Player Character (NPC) at the end of both teams turns. Roll the dice for the Pirate. The pirate will start in the center of the board with the rest of the players. However, roll a six or a four and the Pirate can advance to the ocean course. The Pirate travels in the opposite direction of all players.
The Pirate’s one goal is to steal the treasures from the players. He cannot collect treasures from the board. If the Pirate lands on a player, it turns into a battle at sea! You both roll the numbered die, and the person with the highest number wins. If the Pirate wins, he gains one of your treasures (if you have any). When the Pirate looses, all his treasures go back to the board and the Pirate is sent back to Starfish Island. The Pirate only needs 3 treasures to win the game.
Pirate Rules (with 5 players)
You start at the Center of the board with the rest of the players. You roll at the end of both teams turns (or 5th person to roll). Roll a 4 or a 6 to escape the center of the Island. The Pirate travels in the opposite direction of the rest of the players, and you can only steal treasures. You cannot collect them from game the game board.
The pirate has a few extra tricks when an actual player takes on the role! If you land on or within ONE SPACE of another player you can Battle them for their booty (if they have any). If you lose you must give up one of your treasures, if you have no treasures you are sent back to the center of the island, and are stuck for a turn.
Another special ability is The Pirate can cut across the board to reach other players and steal their treasure, from start point to start point (Note: this counts as moving one space)
The Pirate wins when he collects 4 treasures.
Anchors Away and Have Fun with this Game of Sunken Treasure!
Far beyond the reach of greedy landlubbers, Starfish Island is veiled by the expanse of (the/Poseidon’s) sea, where there is a clash of power waged between our champions three. With it’s jungle and shore unexplored, no one knows what mysteries this island holds, but there are rumors of hidden treasures and bounties of gold. Resist the allure of the siren’s song where the viscous mermaid’s wait, or swim too far into the ocean tide where ravenous sharks hunt for bait. It may be safer to travel in numbers, but if you’re scared of mutiny, trade in your fins and become the octopus overlord of piracy. With all this loot marooned about, is the risk of island peril worth the reward? May the richest seadog win, the battle of the board!
This game was born during a packaging class for graphic design four years ago. I came up with three different game concepts, but this one was my absolute favorite. I loved the idea of creating a team based game and the ocean has been a second home to me. Since then, we have conducted play tests (with more to come before shipping out the final product), a revamp of all the art work (thanks to Alphonso's amazing drawing skills), and resigned the entire board. We have also taken into account additional thank you gifts to come with this kickstater (original shirt designs, plushies and more!). There is still more to be done, but I am so proud of what we have already accomplished and I can't wait to see how far we can go with this concept!

Risks and challenges
Time management is going to be the key to getting this done correctly. We've built the correct relationships with various creatives in many fields, to get this project done right the first time. From finding pricing on every aspect of the game and the rewards.
Another Challenge would be that we've never done anything like this before, however I'm fully confident in our core group of friends that we can pull this off together, and hopefully allow everyone to enjoy what we believe to be a pretty rad game.
