100th Anniversary of Navin Field
It was a great day yesterday at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. More than 60 people came to the corner to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Navin Field. The Navin Field Grounds Crew mowed the grass and raked the infield, then barbecued hot dogs (mustard only -- no ketchup) and dozens of visitors came to play catch, run the bases, and take batting practice. I even got a chance to pitch a little bit. Despite a dreary forecast, the weather was beautiful. One of the field's biggest supporters, Peter Comstock Riley, paid to have a commemorative flag flown under the Stars and Stripes. I'll try to post some video early next week. In the meantime, you can read a great article in the Free Press at this link: http://www.freep.com/article/20120421/SPORTS02/204210432/Tiger-Stadium-anniversary-Fans-mark-100th-by-returning-Michigan-Trumbull
