Georgie’s Big Break is about the high hopes of a single mother, a woman living the life of the body as she raises her infant. She makes a fresh foray back to world of ideas, through Portland’s largest literary festival. With a mix of comedy and genuine emotion, this film offers a showcase for some of Portland’s hottest talent. Based on a story written by Monica Drake (author of Clown Girl) and adapted and directed by Andy Mingo.
In May, SNL cast member Kristen Wiig optioned Monica Drake's novel, Clown Girl, which furthermore illustrates Drake's ability to write compelling narratives that are ready for the screen. This fact alone created excitement for our project as the film's director, Andy Mingo fell in love with Georgie's plight.
A good portion of principal photography took place at the 2010 Wordstock Literary Festival in Portland Oregon, and we wrapped up shooting in October. Georgie's Big Break features appearances by literary personalities such as Chelsea Cain, Willy Vlautin, and Monica Drake ... plus a couple of surprises that we unfortunately need to keep under wraps to protect the dramatic integrity of the film.
What are we hoping to kickstart specifically?
We are currently seeking money for music rights/audio design, color grading, and After Effects... basically all we need to have the film ready for the festival circuit. Your generous contribution will make the difference between the film being finished or languishing in limbo.
How else can you help?
At the moment we need money, but you can also help by posting links to this kickstarter page or by linking to our facebook page.
