Xi Draconis Books publishes socially-engaged literary fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and art. In fact, we're the only press that deals explicitly with socially-engaged literature, a necessity given the many problems the world faces: climate change, hunger, war, poverty, racism, sexism, commodification, privatization, authoritarianism, and hierarchy.
2018 is our first production year, and so far we've published two excellent books: In Some Sense Innocent, a novel by Hans Burger; and The American Book of the Dead, an epic poem by Joseph D. Reich. A third book, Izzy Oneiric's lyric memoir The Year Is Sunday, is coming out in October. Each of these works deals with some social problem (respectively, our culture's treatment of criminals, our rampant consumerism, and our failing healthcare system), and we're very proud of them.
However, if we are to continue publishing excellent literature into 2019 and beyond, we really, really need funding. The cost for a small press such as ours to publish three books a year, plus attend necessary bookfairs and conferences, is anywhere from $3000 to $3500. We are asking for only a third of this, $1000, to help us through 2019. We offer a variety of rewards for funding, including copies of our books, the chance to choose the topic for one of our blogs, and sponsorship listing. The sponsorship listing includes all the book rewards as well.

Risks and challenges
As the editor of Xi Draconis Books, I feel very confident in saying that there are very few risks associated with funding us. I already have a year of experience in the publishing industry and have released every book the press has announced on time. Furthermore, I've personally worked with each author to make sure that his book was in top shape before publication. I also designed each of our publications' covers. And I did all of this on time, without setbacks. I envision a smooth 2019 production year. I just need some funding to help out with the costs of publishing quality literature.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
