This is an exciting new book, with an amazing Illustrator, dedicated to raising awareness and acceptance of people with autism.
About this project
This is a very special book, dedicated to raising awareness and acceptance of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The idea of this book came from my son, who is on the autism spectrum. Often, when he became scared or nervous, he would start calling himself a penguin. As time went on, he started to wear a cape and solve 'mysteries' with his stuffed animals. Every time someone would meet him he would say "Hi, my name is Logan, but you can call me "Penguin". Recognizing the empowerment he felt as his alter ego "Penguin", I felt his story needed to be told to encourage other "penguins" and super hero kids to embrace their differences and to share these unique and yes Autistic gifts. So sit back, relax, and experience an adventure with us!
This is his story; how he overcomes his daily challenges with a light heart, a smile and of course his side kick Giraffey!
One of the most exciting parts of this process has been seeing the pages come to life with Logan's adventures!
This book embraces the idea that everyone is different, an encourages us to lovingly share those things that make us each unique!
The physical specs of the final printed product are:
- 8.5 x 11 inches
- Hardcover
- 32 pages
- full color illustrations
Once the Kickstarter book is printed, a portion of all the profits will be donated to benefit the Autism Society, which is a 501 c3. The purpose of this book is to educate and promote awareness of a disability that effects 1 in every 68 children in the United States. With no cure in sight, we need to learn how we can help and accept people with autism and prevent them from being alienated from the community. Their disability is one of invisibility, but not any less disabling.
Why we are raising money? We are self- publishing this book which can be quite expensive. We need the funds to kickstart the production, support illustration, printing and distribution cost including marketing to get the word out on this original children's book for an important cause.
