About this project
Magic Toast is a short animated film that explores the whimsical lives and hidden challenges of a little princess and her extraordinary mother. Although written as a children's story, the true message behind this fairy tale is in celebration of single parents and a tribute to their everyday heroics. Our hope for this film is that it will be used by charities, shelters and support groups to encourage and inspire single parents everywhere.
Magic Toast has been designed to look similar to original Disney animations. Think Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland and you will have a pretty good idea of the look we are hoping to create. However, please keep in mind that these gorgeous movies were created by the painstaking method of hand-drawn cell animation. Magic Toast will be a digitally animated film and will have unique qualities inherent to this process. Although we do not have an animation sample to show you just yet, we do have this element compilation, which blends a bit of narration with illustrations and a temporary music bed:
Here are just a few of the exciting rewards and incentives we are offering our backers. Be sure to see the full list for more options.
Write your own tribute to your single parent or someone who deserves special recognition and we will display your message in our credit roll. If you are the parent of an aspiring little actor we can capture your child's voice in our fairy tale and include their name in our credits. Of course your child would also receive their very own copy of the DVD as a keepsake. For more details see the Your Child's Voice In a Fairy Tale reward to the right -->

When we first started working on this project we had no idea it would lead us to building a super team of talented artists, but that's exactly what it did! Each of the people behind the "Toast" are true professionals who have been perfecting their crafts for years. We are so honored to share our journey with this amazing cast and crew:
Most of the funds collected will be used to pay for all aspects of the 2D animation. Our finished film will be roughly seven to nine minutes long, which translates into many, many, hours of digital animation; a very costly process. In order to launch Magic Toast, we personally funded the main character development, partial exterior environment development, and all costs associated with recording the narration. We will not recoup these costs nor have we built them into the fundraising budget in order to keep our goal amount as low as possible. The general allocation of funds is as follows:
Risks and challenges
We have already mentioned (a few times) that the animation process is costly and labor intensive. After extensive research we believe that this film can be completely designed and fully animated, to our exacting standards, within a 12 month time period. Once animated we need to allow time for editing and music composition which will extend production time by a few more months.
We have set realistic goals for our budget and production schedule but there is always a possibility that we will hit some unexpected delays. If this were to happen we will communicate with our backers, explain the situation and present a revised delivery date for DVDs and other rewards.
Of course a huge benefit of a short animated film project is that there is little worry that our main character will have a temper tantrum and walk off set. If she does we will simply draw a new one…
