"I often go for a walk through Chicago’s near west side neighborhoods to take a mid-day break and get a little writing done. The Lanier has been perfect for that. I can grab it, along with my iPad, a notebook, pen, and Apple Pencil with room to spare, and head out without taking my bigger, heavier messenger bag."
"The main compartment has more than enough room for my iPad, keyboard, and Confidant; the front zipper pocket is where my charger goes; and the removable pouch is perfect for the memo books, earbuds, and writing utensils."
"Nock made the Lanier to fit around A4 sized notebooks, and I have no doubt that is the case, but I don’t have any near me to confirm. What I can say is that it is really thin and fits my larger iPad Pro extremely well — with, or without the Silicone case and Smart Keyboard Cover — the iPad Pro slides in and out better than any other case I have used."

We believe in all things analog at Nock Co., but we also live in an age of digital tools. With today’s increasingly portable laptops and tablet devices, a bulky backpack is overkill for the everyday carry, but a sleeve is simply not enough for the analog accessories that help us get our jobs done.
Introducing the Lanier, a streamlined, versatile case with room for both new technologies and old standards.
This slim briefcase features a main pocket that fits a large electronic device, such as the iPad Pro, Microsoft Surface, or even a 13-inch laptop. This A4 pocket is also wide enough to tuck in a notebook next to your device, so you can carry all your ideas with you.
The Lanier also includes a removable A5 size front pouch, perfect for cords, pens, pencils, and small notebooks.
Nock Co. believes in high-quality materials and sturdy construction, and we’re bringing the same standards to the Lanier.
Overall dimensions: 14 1/4" wide x 10 1/2" tall x 1" deep
Front pouch dimensions: 10 1/2" wide x 7 1/2" tall
Exterior: DWR (durable water repellant) coated 1000D Cordura
Interior: 400D pack cloth
Interior padding: 1/8” mildew-resistant foam
Hardware: #8 YKK zippers
Handles: 1” mil-spec nylon, reinforced internally at each connection with 1” bar tack stitching
Carry this briefcase to your workspace, set up your laptop or tablet in the field, or simply grab the A5 pouch for meetings or sketching your lunch break away. The Lanier combines your analog and digital tools into a single, sleek, and durable every-day carry.
The Lanier is only $88 during this Kickstarter campaign, and will retail for $98 next year after this project is complete.
Prototyping
We started in on this design back in the spring, making our first prototypes out of materials we had on hand. The original goal was to fit an A4 notebook, plus a 13" MacBook Pro, and our first sample did just that:
Stitching it up.
First sample complete!
The shape and build were great, but we realized quickly if we added just a tiny bit more room in the main compartment we could fit many more devices, while still keeping the low profile we were shooting for.
Got it!
The front pocket contains a removable pouch to fit A5-sized items, plus pens, pencils, and digital accessories.
We also wanted to do a different label for The Lanier. Turns out printer paper is just fine for sampling shape, size, and color:
Black label.
We are proud of the iteration, process, and results of The Lanier and can't wait to get it into your hands.
Stretch Goal - Coming Soon!!!
Riesgos y desafíos
The design is complete and the prototypes are signed off on with our manufacturer. The only foreseeable delay would be if this project far exceeds its goal and the increased quantity pushes back the estimated delivery date.
