About this project
1888: John J. Loud patented the ball point pen. He was a leather tanner and probably made bags.
In 2007, Brad Dowdy started a blog, The Pen Addict. It was a place where he could share his obsession with pens in a healthier way than hoarding them and building a small cabin in the North Georgian hills from empty pen barrels and cartridges. He posted about the good, the bad, and the ridiculous. His passion for pens was stymied by the lack of an appropriate vessel to carry his collection through the dark alleys of the stationery world.
Jeffrey Bruckwicki, of J. Bruckwicki P+D, started sewing back in the pilgrims year of 2008 under the moniker of Gnome Bags. His understanding of bags only grew as he moved from the Michigan ice flats to the lush forests of Georgia. The higher temperature required rethinking the idea of a bag. He focused on designing around contents not just designing silhouettes. In 2012, with the brand Alter MFG, Jeffrey sewed the first Mod.02 pen(cil) case and sent it to Brad. It was almost a year later that their two obsessions found a platform to join, Nock Co.

A single piece of zipper adds the structure to this case which allows for easy visibility and access to whatever you are hoarding. When zipped closed it flattens out nicely to fit in a bag or back pocket. Our mini pop-up is enough to hold your favorite 6 or 7 pens/pencils, erasers, headphones, etc. This case is unlined but still made with 1000D Nylon exterior, with a DWR coating. Handcrafted in Georgia, USA.
The Maryapple - Our Two Memo Book Bi-Fold
Pens, pens, pens, always the pens. Not anymore. We know you need to carry items to write on, not just write with, so we crafted the Two Memo Bi-Fold. There are three pen slots with a flap to keep them in during your active life. The notepad side is deep enough to keep your self meditations safe. The exterior is a heavy nylon with DWR coating and the liner is a smooth pack cloth. Handcrafted in Georgia, USA. Dimensions: 8"w * 6.75"
The Sassafras - Our Five Pen Bi-Fold Case
Need storage for more than one pen but the open abyss of a pouch won't cut it? This guy is for you. We call it our five pen because that how many slots it has...it fits more. Brad hates clips touching so we threw some flaps on each side of the bi-fold and BOOM, clips-no-touch. It's still made of tough 1000D nylon for the exterior and a tear-resistant pack cloth liner. Handcrafted in Georgia, USA. Dimensions: 8"w * 6.75"
The Brasstown - Our Zippered Roll Case
There was once this idea: pen roll, pencil case ... COMBINE THEM! Our zippered roll case give you the best of both worlds. The case itself is large enough to throw in your lead, eraser, ruler, gum, digital recorder, dum-dum and more. If you want to protect your special tools of wonderment then unroll the tongue and expose the well protected goodness. With the six divided sleeves you can rate your pens from favorite to most detested (as long it falls on a scale of 1-6, 6 being favorite). The extra fabric on the far end of the roll allows for no-clip-touch through the rolling and storing process. A tough 1000D nylon exterior with smooth pack cloth liner give you the protection and durability you expect. Handcrafted in Georgia, USA. Dimensions: 8"w * 6.75"

From Sketch To Prototype To Reality
Nock Co. was born from a several hour, caffeine fueled brainstorming session. We tossed around designs, materials, colors, pricing, logos - anything and everything we could think of. Early sketches turned into prototypes. Bad prototypes turned into good prototypes. Several rounds of changes and improvements turned into the project you see us launching today.
Getting It Made
Production planning is well underway so we are ready to begin manufacturing as soon as the campaign ends. Our fabric, thread, binding, zippers, and labels have all been sourced, if not already ordered. Once funded, we will finalize the fabric order and begin cutting and sewing as soon as it arrives.
Jeffrey will be leading the manufacturing process from start to finish. Our patterns are digitally created and then transferred to a Gerber Technology CNC machine for precise cutting. Once the fabric is cut, Jeffrey will begin the sewing process which right now is slated for production of approximately 250 pieces per week. If production needs to exceed that rate we have experienced seamsters on standby that we will contract with to help us meet our shipping goals.
You can see the actual cutting and sewing machines we will be using for production in the video at the top of the page. Many other prototype pictures and descriptions have been posted on the Nock Co. blog.
Order fulfillment, packaging, and shipping will be handled personally by Brad. We will be shipping from our Georgia shop to all corners of the globe.
Why We Need Your Support
We want to make the best pen cases on the planet. Your support during this project will allow us to purchase the equipment and materials needed to launch our shop begin world domination.
Risks and challenges
Jeffrey is an experienced seamster with years of experience running machines and supervising the line. Only one piece of additional machinery will need to be acquired, and the fabric has already been sourced. We are fully confident that we will meet our production and shipping deadlines.
We will be very transparent through this entire project and will stay frequent with backer updates. Please send us any questions you may have or leave a comment and we will respond as quickly as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
