About

The funds we are raising are used to get production of the ground, create silicone molds and sculpting a 16 inch high master replica of the Kachkar Masterpiece to be reproduced in cold cast stone editions. This master replica will be created to scale by Roy W. Butler, a master sculptor himself. He will sculpt the master replica 100% by hand utilizing several techniques with different materials such as clay, wax, resin and woven materials. Out of this master we can create silicone molds for mass production of our keep-sake editions.

We have researched many avenues of creating the scaled down master replica including 3D scanning and milling. However, due to the intricate complexities of the Kachkar Masterpiece artwork, the only way it could be successfully created and to retain the feel of the original, was to have it handmade by another master sculptor.

Be one of the first to have your personal, gallery quality keepsake edition and with your help, you can make it possible to share the Kachkar Masterpiece with everyone around the world!

Imagine wearing a piece of quality jewelry representing the Kachkar Center Heart Cross!

We listened and due to your many requests, we have created a beautiful high-quality, custom-designed fashion jewelry pendant necklace representing the focal heart center of the Kachkar Masterpiece.

When we began the jewelry portion of our project, we committed to offering a very-high quality, yet very affordable pendant necklace available in your choice of 3 brilliant luster fashion finishes; 14kt gold filled, 14kt rose gold filled and sterling silver. As with our Kachkar gallery quality edition sculptures, we also committed to quality by having the necklace designed, fabricated and finished in the USA.

Our Kachkar Center Heart Cross features one large center crystal surrounded by a circle of 12 smaller crystals. We chose genuine Swarovski (Swore-off-ski) crystals, regarded as the highest quality machine cut and polished crystals in the world. Invented in 1892, Swarovski crystals have been the most sought after crystal by jewelry designers for their guaranteed sparkle and brilliance. They are second to none in perfect precision cut quality and craftsmanship.

Our Kachkar Center Heart Cross Pendant is approximately 2 inches long and 1 inches wide. Much thought has gone into providing a high quality fashionable Y-style necklace chain that is fully adjustable and measures between 16 and 20 inches with a 3 inch center drop and lobster clasp.

The Kachkar Masterpiece Center Heart Cross Pendant Necklace means many things to many people. For you, will it become a cherished heirloom keepsake, great conversation piece or an exceptional gift for that special someone?

Thank you for reading about our presentation and place your order today for immediate delivery once our project funding has been reached!

Here you can see some of Roy W Butler's work. He will create the the 16 inch tall gallery sculpture edition.

What will be the size and weight of my personal Kachkar Masterpiece sculpture edition?

Size will be approximately 16 inches High X 12 inches Wide x 3.5 inches Deep. We estimate weight will be approximately 7 to 8 pounds.

Can I hang it on the wall? What about table top display?

Yes to both! You can hang it on a structurally sound wall surface as you would normally hang most wall decor. A centered cleat recess will be provided on the back for wall hanging and the weight is within range of most commonly sized interior decor wall pieces. You can also proudly display it standing on a table top, credenza, bookcase, etc. It is truly a piece of fine art created to honor the Kachkar Masterpiece.

Is it for indoor or outdoor display?

Your Kachkar Masterpiece edition is for indoor display only and not intended for outdoor weather elements.

What is the composition of my Kachkar Masterpiece sculpture edition?

We have sourced fabrication from established USA based vendors with many years of experience to maintain high quality standards. The editions are gallery quality and individually created by skilled artisans from a process called "cold cast stone". It is a durable fusion of high quality resins and powdered stones to create the texture and feel of the original Kachkar Masterpiece. Each edition will also have a final antiqued patina created by multi-step hand applied processes to mimic the original Kachkar Masterpiece. The editions are NOT fabricated from easily chipped or broken plaster like many cheap imported figurines.

Will my personal Kachkar Masterpiece sculpture edition be signed by the artist?

YES! It will have Mr. Butler's signature, copyright and date proudly but discretely embossed on the side of your edition.

I noticed the original Kachkar Masterpiece is hand carved from a single piece of "red tuff stone". Exactly what is tuff stone?

Good question and thanks for asking, here is a short historical explanation! TUFF is a type of rock made of volcanic ash ejected from vents during a volcanic eruption. Following ejection and deposition, over time the ash is compacted into a solid rock. TUFF has been used for construction purposes since ancient times. Since it is common in Italy the Romans used it often for construction. Another historical note; the Rapa Nui people used it to make most of the Moai statues on Easter Island.

The Kachkar Masterpiece is hand cut from one solid piece of red tuff stone and the final sculpture weighs approximately 3,000 pounds. Just imagine intricate carving on one massive piece of stone for 18 years!

Why is Mr. Butler sculpting the master replica instead of the master sculptor Hratch Karapetian?

Great question. As with any professional expertise or skill, artisans and craftsmen also have their specialties. The master and his fellow sculptors are incredibly talented stone sculptors, a skill that requires hammers, chisels and files. Ironically, the sculptors also made their own tools utilizing them to create the Kachkar Masterpiece. Their expertise is working on stone, not clays and waxes.

Mr. Butler will be the first to tell you he has no expertise in stone sculpting but highly respects the art form and how strenuous it can be to create even the most simple designs.

However, he has been commissioned to create the miniature master replica due to his proven expertise in hi-realism fine art sculpting which utilizes professional sculpting clays and waxes. In addition to having a strong architectural background, his work has been introduced on Oprah, commissioned by entertainment and sports celebrities, governments, commercial and private collectors nationwide and published internationally. He is dedicated to assisting us in creating the master replica and promoting our Kickstarter campaign.

Could you provide us more history on the original Kachkar Masterpiece?

Thanks for asking!

The sculptors began the project in 1980 and completed it in 1998. Yes, 18 years later! It took them about a year to locate the exact stone that would be large enough to contain their initial ideas and be structurally reliable enough to endure the stress and extensive carving that would be required. The stone selected was found in Armenia after extensive searches. We don't know for sure but the original slab probably weighed up to another 1,000 pounds more, before actual shaping began.

Approximately 3 years were devoted to creating final designs, detailing, measurements and initial shaping to create such an unique and magnificent piece of sculpture.

I understand there are many symbolisms created into the original Kachkar Masterpiece including the virgin Mary designed into the masthead representing the mother of many worldwide religions. However, I've heard the virgin Mary garment designed into the masthead also has a rather significant symbolism.

Yes, you are correct! If you carefully map the garment leading edges on both sides of her face you will notice they make up a considerable amount of detailing across the entire surface of the sculpture. Connect these two lines and you will discover they are actually ONE. Most of the detailing across the sculpture face is actually one intricately woven unbroken string. It has been computer verified to be approximately 2 miles in length.

Has the original Kachkar Masterpiece ever been displayed to the public or will it be in the future?

Yes! It has been displayed for public viewing in Armenia, Germany, Italy, France and briefly in southern California with overwhelming interest and response.

The original Kachkar Masterpiece is currently in a secret, and secured storage in California, USA. Our plans are to have the piece available for public viewing again in the near future at a showcase location in southern California then to schedule viewings on a national level.

Your help in funding our Kachkar Masterpiece gallery quality editions will assist us in making future plans to share the original sculpture to more public venues where it has been requested.

Help us share the Kachkar Masterpiece with everyone around the world!

Risks and challenges

Our biggest challenge is to get as much of the Kachkar Masterpiece delicate artwork and detail represented in a 16 inch master. Imagine shrinking a 7 foot tall highly detailed artwork into just less than 2 feet. Using a combination of miniature sculpting techniques and the illusion of detail where required, with Mr. Butler's expertise we know now that is possible.

In order to assure continued high quality, we have already procured USA based vendors to create the master molds and begin production of the gallery quality editions.

Once our project is funded we will continue to provide updates to our subscribers including timeline progress announcements and videos of the sculpting and fabrication processes.

RISKS and CHALLENGES about the Necklace

The only risks we anticipate is that our total project is not funded. We already have our US vendor and molds ready to begin creating each handcrafted pendant.
