About this project
Remember when you learned your first language? You didn't need language tapes. You didn't get sent to a class. People talked to you and you listened and little by little, you got the gist of what people were saying.
What if you could learn a second language the same way?
Imagine no homework. No language drills. Just listen and learn.
No-Work Spanish is a brand-new way to learn Spanish simply by listening to stories. Each sentence of the story is read first in English, then in Spanish. Play it on your iPod while walking. Play it in your car. Just listen to the story and your brain will do the rest.
No-Work Spanish primarily teaches language comprehension. When you learned your first language, you learned to understand it first. Speaking, reading and writing came later. So try learning Spanish the same way. Or if you already take Spanish in school, listen to No-Work Spanish stories and dramatically improve your Spanish skills and test scores, just by pressing 'Play' on the CD player.
Are you skeptical that you could learn a foreign language this way? My name is Anne Emerick and I'm the creator of No-Work Spanish. I'm not good at learning foreign languages. After five years of French in junior high and high school, my college language placement test put me back in French 1! But, with no previous instruction in Spanish, I listened to No-Work Spanish stories. I listened primarily while I drove to work or the store. Occasionally I played No-Work Spanish stories while cleaning up around the house. My goal was to pass the listening comprehension portion of the New York Spanish Regents 3 exam. I achieved this goal on January 14, 2010 - scoring 13 out of 15 on the listening comprehension section. And, more importantly, I now have a substantial Spanish vocabulary.
No-Work Spanish is a brand-new concept. The story is read with each sentence said first in English, then in Spanish. You will find your mind connects the English and Spanish, just like you can pause a favorite song and sing the next line, without thinking about it and certainly without making any effort to memorize the words in the song.
After a chapter has been read in English and Spanish, it is repeated in Spanish, to reinforce the Spanish version in the listener's mind. No-Work Spanish stories are available on CD's or as audio downloads. They vary in length from 50 minutes to about an hour and 45 minutes.
Each story has a different reader, so you will become familiar with variations in pronunciation
The first two stories, Yaks March on Washington and Poster Girl are ready to have CD's produced. The Case of the Missing Poodle is still in final editing and will be published this summer.
Here is a brief summary of the stories:
