During the summer of 2014, I completed my first series of scratchboard drawings in seven years. It was a series of 17 small bird drawings entitled Lil' Birds. These drawings were created to be exhibited at Hope & Olive Restaurant in Greenfield,MA in the winter of 2015.
No sooner had I finished my little birds, when I was contacted by the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center in Brattleboro, Vermont.BMAC offered me the opportunity to have a solo exhibit in 2016.
The imagery however, needed to have an ambiguous narrative that could be read by the viewers in a variety of ways. As a result, Lil' Birds was much too literal and the drawings were also far too small for the space that I need to fill.
That's when I began creating Wishing for the Moon. This series of 14 drawings is brimming with personal symbolism. The drawings are intended to be inter-related but the narrative itself is known only to me.
So two exhibits in a period of four months is exciting right? Sure, but two exhibits equal one big expense! And so that is why I am reaching out for patronage. I want the drawings for the museum exhibit to remain a surprise so I will only give a teaser. The bird images however are being used as reward incentives to help finance the framing, photographing and materials required to create all of these drawings.
The video below shows all 17 birds and identifies them by name. I hope that you enjoy the imagery that I am sharing and let me thank you all ahead of time for helping me!

Risks and challenges
In addition to being a professional artist, I am also an art teacher in a local middle school. As many of you are aware, teaching requires a great deal of time and preparation and thus limits my time in the studio. (I LOVE teaching mind you, it just impacts how much art I can produce during the school year!)
For this reason, I will be using my school vacations to get your rewards in the mail. In fact, this is how I created the drawings for Wishing for the Moon...I drew the preliminary drawings over winter break and rendered all 14 boards over the summer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
