Legends of Baseball
Legends of Baseball (LOB) is a fun and fast paced dice and card game for 1 or 2 players that brings the all time greatest players to your tabletop. Ninety percent of plays are resolved in 1 die roll and no play takes more than 2 rolls. An average game takes only about 25 minutes to play.
LOB uses the 2nd edition of the tried and true Pine Tar game engine that was first released in March of 2015. Complete seasons have been previously released for this game engine and include; 1884, 1889, 1897, 1915, 1936 Negro League, 1973, 1982, 2014, and 2016.
The 'Legends of Baseball' series is the first set I am releasing that comes on individual cards. The cards used for LOB are the same quality cards as those used in such games as 'Magic: The Gathering' They are on flexible heavy card stock and come with rounded corners. Each card is printed in full color on front and back.
LOB allows you to play the greats from any period in baseball. There is even an expansion set that has two Negro league rosters!
Background on Game Development
I grew up playing games such as APBA and Strat-O-Matic. I wanted a game that still played as realistic as those games, but had a simpler base runner advancement and hit location system. A game that didn't require as much chart flipping and thus had a small tabletop footprint.
My initial development began on June 10th of 2012, the day after my laptop died. I had gotten away from board games and was playing more computer titles. It was that day that I decided to began on a game that was in the tabletop genre. The Legends of Baseball series is the end result. The final result of LOB was reached in large part because of great feedback from a tabletop forum that has over 10,000 members. I am eternally grateful to all the support I received from fellow gamers along the way.

Lay Out of the Card Sets
The printed version of the base game comes with 32 player cards. These are divided into 2 different rosters. Each roster has a different background color to tell them apart from one another. The AL roster is blue, while the NL roster is light tan. Each roster in the base set has 11 position players, 3 starting pitchers, and 2 relief pitchers. Each roster has at least 1 player for every fielding position so that roster can make up a team.
The different expansion sets have unique card back art. This way, you can tell at a glance which set the card belongs to. If you get all 4 card sets and combine them into one large team roster, you can then easily sort them back into their original sets by referencing their art work.
Cards are made with a 12 point 305gsm black-core matt card stock. This provides excellent color quality, sheen, and snap back. Cards are poker sized (2.5 x 3.5")
Here are the two base set rosters:
For the AL: Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Eddie Collins, Yogi Berra, Cal Ripken, Brooks Robinson, Joe DiMaggio, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Mickey Cochrane, Walter Johnson, Lefty Grove, Cy Young, Dennis Eckersley, and Rollie Fingers.

Game play is fast and easy. Ninety percent of outcomes are resolved by rolling two d10 dice. This will give values from 0 to 99. The results are read right off of the batter's hit column. Critical plays are impacting by the pitcher by use of a chart.
Certain special plays require a 2nd roll that is either a 2 die or 3 die roll. There is no special roll for base running (except steals). How far base runners may advance is determined by the players speed rating, (either S, M, or F) and whether the batting roll was odd or even.
Glen P - Hi James...got my game today, and I gotta say, it's awesome. The components are top notch, some of the best I've seen, and I own a lot of tabletop baseball games. The game play is fun, and easy to learn. After 2 games, I'm already implementing all of the optional rules ..definitely adds to the realism...I will be buying more products from you. Thank you again for your prompt, courteous customer service and your incredibly fun, realistic game....
I knocked out a 3 game series WITH all optional rules...in about an hour and 15 mins. Using defensive checks, the SO/BB ratings, throws out at home on hits...all of them..injury checks too...such a great game...More hobbyists should be playing this game....
Kevin R - My copy arrived today!! Thank you James...it looks absolutely great. The quality of the contents are first class and the production values and attention to detail are superb! Well done too for the amazingly quick fulfillment from initial Kickstarter campaign.
Jess S - I think you have developed a nice compromise between playability, baseball feel and accuracy with PineTar ... and I've played virtually every baseball cards and dice sim since 1967 with my first APBA and Strat sets :)
At the $13 level: You will receive a PDF that includes the rules set, score sheet, and all 128 players from all 4 card sets. You also get any additional electronic files from stretch goals that have been reached. All you need is to get your own dice to play the game.
At the $20 level: You receive the boxed game edition that includes the printed rules book, game mat, 4 score sheets, double sided game chart, game pawns, dice, and 2 golf pencils for scoring.
In addition to the game parts, you receive the base set of 32 player cards. You also receive any printed stretch goals that have been reached.
At the $29 level: You receive all the game parts that are in the $20 reward, plus 64 player cards. These are the cards that make up the base set and expansion set 1. See the roster images above in the base set and expansion 1 set sections. You also receive any printed stretch goals that have been reached.
At the $38 level: You receive all the game parts that are in the $20 reward, plus 96 player cards. These are the cards that make up the base set, expansion set 1, and expansion set 2. You also receive any printed stretch goals that have been reached.
At the $45 level: You receive all the game parts that are in the $20 reward, plus 128 player cards. These are the cards that make up the base set, expansion set 1, expansion set 2, and expansion set 3 (the Negro League players). You also receive any printed stretch goals that have been reached.
Stretch goal 1: If the campaign reaches the $700 amount, each card set will come with 2 roster cards that show the 16 players on each squad. These roster cards are already shown under the 'Layout of the Cards' section above.
Stretch goal 2: If the Campaign reaches the $2000 amount, two more player cards will be added to the base set. The players are Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. There cards will be added to the set, but their names won't appear on the roster cards because roster cards only have room for 16 players each.
Stretch goal 3: If the Campaign reaches the $3000 amount, the boxed game will include a 2nd copy of the printed chart. The back side doesn't get used much, but this way you can lay out both charts side by side for quick reference.
Stretch goal 4: If the Campaign reaches the $3900 amount, an extra card with Babe Ruth's pitching stats will be included at all reward levels.
Stretch goals 1, 2 and 4 apply to PDF's, and printed player sets. Stretch goal 3 only applies to printed games.
Risks and challenges
Risks are minimal as the project is already complete except for possible stretch goal items. I already have had my professional printer do a proof set of the cards to make sure the color scheme looks good and to ensure the highest quality.
This means that I can get the final print order in just as soon as the funding clears through KickStarter. This takes place 2 weeks after the end of the campaign.
Then I receive the printed items back about 2 weeks after that. Printed rewards then will go out 4 weeks after campaign's end. Everything will be shipped via priority mail.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
