Who is Ghita?
The true roots of Ghita of Alizarr are found in Sir James Frazer’s The Golden Bough, with its fantastic collection of bizarre primitive beliefs, taboos, and outrages in the name of religion — which is the primary inspiration for Frank’s outré creation. The name Alizarr is adapted from alizarin crimson, the color of Red Sonja’s hair. Ghita’s name is drawn from that portion of the Hindu Mahabharata called the Bhagavad-Gita: The Song of God. Central to the song of Ghita is the sword. Not a specific blade, any scimitar, broadsword, or cutlass placed in her hands will be enough to rile the ancient phallic myth within her. Indeed, Ghita, is a lusty blend of Fanny Hill, Barbarella, and Joan of Arc. Ghita, the outrageous warrior woman of Alizarr is the winged Victory of the sexual revolution; the final lewd monument to a battle long over. Ghita is absurd – a libidinous clown of heavenly proportions in an ancient festering world of benign and lethal nightmares.
Ghita of Alizarr the story began.........
In 1978, fresh off his run on Red Sonja, Frank Thorne went on to create the lusty warrior-goddess, Ghita. Imbued with the spirit of a mighty general, she would lead a rag-tag band against bloodthirsty armies, and along the way get in some tumbumping. Originally published by Warren Publishing in 1984 and continued into 1994 series. Along with the Wizard Thenef and Dahib Ghita seizes the throne of Alizarr. Hermes Press published the original art from the first story in the initial volume Ghita of Alizarr A Erotic Treasury Vol I. Showcasing some of Frank's earliest art of Ghita including her first appearance in the erotic epic "Ghita of Alizarr," early character designs, un-produced movie storyboards, the Wizard and Warrior Women portfolio, pin-ups, and covers. This edition, measuring 12” x 18”, the artwork has been scanned from the original pages in colour to ensure the closest reproduction.
Ghita's Adventures Continue............
