Behind the Music - with Jon Barber
BadPuss: A Popumentary is the rock ‘n’ roll child of weeks spent on the tour bus of a very close friend to the project, Jon Barber. While traveling the country frequenting rock shows and laughing over endless inside jokes, BadPuss was born. Since that time, we have put down the glow sticks, and gone to work creating the story of a fictional band.
Inspired by our society’s very real fixation on body parts and sex-tapes, BadPuss holds a mirror to our contemporary celebrity and fame-obsessed culture. BadPuss reflects the pressures of the music industry, exposing its highs and lows; for better or for worse.
A modern day tale of confused inadvertent pop- starlets and their adventures as hot bodies and dropped commodities—from their unlikely rise to the top of the charts to their public fall from grace. This is BadPuss: a story of misguidance, hedonistic lesbians and leopard print bikinis.
LARA REARS started BadPuss: a band aimed for success but drowned out by misinformed publicity stunts and desperate attempts at spiritual enlightenment. Now, four years later, Lara has collected the remaining band members: idiot savant KASSIE and physically mutilated RO, to complete a documentary with an incapable yet dedicated REPORTER just two days before their first comeback tour, “Body Shots and Hot Regrets.”
Extraordinary secrets are revealed for the first time on tape and the girls confess burning passions for the most unexpected individuals. Testimonials from the girls’ enemies, sexual conquests, ex-best friends and celebrity professionals are collected to supplement the band’s introspective musings.

Risks and challenges
In the making of BadPuss, we want to replace the competitive with the cooperative and to support one another’s creative growth for the good of the group. BadPuss has been a labor of love for the four of us since day one.
We feel extremely lucky to have such a talented and generous group of friends and the making of BadPuss thus far has been a collaborative series of calling favors in to our nearest and dearest friends. There are always bumps in the road in filmmaking and we have learned to embrace those growing pains with grace. As a filmmaker friend of ours warned us, "A lot of pre-production is putting out fires". To that we say, we are fearless fire-fighters! We are fearless due, in large part, to the support we have from experienced professionals in the industry who have made themselves an irreplaceable part of this process.
We have worked countless hours in an effort to make our dream a reality. We have raised a small portion of the money we needed to get our idea off the ground up to this point. That little bit has gone a long way in pre-production: we've gotten our cast, all of our locations, and the majority of our crew confirmed. We've held music studio sessions and photo shoots and even begun a bit of testimonial and concert footage, while running on enthusiasm.
While enthusiasm is definitely not in short supply, the funds are! In joining our collaborative efforts, your help will get us through the end of production. You will be funding Claire DeLiso's beautiful stylistic vision, you will be ensuring we have the equipment necessary to tell this tale on film, you will be feeding our incredible cast and crew! You will be helping an entire team of up-and-coming creators come one step closer to a career that is not only fulfilling, but actually pays the bills too!
On a grander scale, you will be helping us plant a seed of reflection in the minds of our audiences as we ask them to take a second look at the pop culture battle-ground we exist in.
Best of all, you’ll be helping us share our hard work with the world while getting some big laughs. We truly can't wait to share it with you. Thank you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
