About this project
Hello! This Kickstarter project is funding a 4 year documentary on The Mancos Project's members from working an organic garden, to competing in the 2016 Olympic Trials. First, let me tell you about The Mancos Project and how it came to be. Then, we can go over the details on this exciting film.
It all started when Ben Hahn, a student at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania had an idea. As a runner and self-dubbed environmentalist, he tried to think of a way to meet some of the problems he saw first hand in this country. First, our natural environment was being destroyed. Second, the current approach to developing distance runners was not working and many quality athletes were being left with no other choice after college but to get a job and hang up the running shoes. There had to be a way to solve these dilemmas.
Two years later Ben was training in Flagstaff, AZ and came up with the idea of The Mancos Project.
The Mancos Project, a broad-based project located in southwest Colorado is fundamentally a group of elite American distance runners training and living together while striving to live in the most eco-friendly and sustainable way possible.
In a nutshell, 10 people will live together at 7,000 feet elevation on a 24 acre ranch, train together, work an organic garden together, and try to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Trials together while raising awareness about environmental concerns.
The Mancos Project is going back to the basics to help develop the American distance running scene and mother earth.

For this specific project, Kickstarter financial backers will be funding a 4 year filming endeavor of which content will be made into a documentary about the athletes journey from working an organic garden to the Olympic Trials in 2016.
Our film crew needs money to buy a new camera, travel expenses to film the races Team Earth Elite is going to as well as training sessions, video editing software, lighting, sound costs, insurance, final editing, still photo costs (photographer), art department costs, final post online costs, final post mix, marketing costs, office expenses (paper supplies, internet, fax, etc), food, location (fees, permits), petty cash, among others.
We have estimated that $14,850 dollars is the bottom line cost for us to pull off this film. Most of that cost is coming from the cameras (Nikon D7000-$1,500 and GoPro HD Hero 2-$350), camera equipment (Wonderlan Rig DSLR Kit $1,760), editing software (Apple Final Cut Pro X-$500), editing ( Videobrite Company-$2400), marketing (online, print, products-$2500), Printer (Brother MFC-7360N Laser Multifunction Printer- $240), film crew travel expenses (Mainly Gas at around $2,600), and other office expenses/food/location/insurance/lighting/photography/etc. costs at around $3000.
For the type of quality that this film will bring and the exceptional story that will be told, this cost is a bargain. These athletes are willing to give up modern comforts and work together to make their dreams come true. This film will not only be interesting but motivating. Further, this film would give the added exposure to The Mancos Project to help the cause itself flourish.
Further, The Mancos Project already has part of a team selected as part of their Team Earth Elite squad and have had success this spring and summer. For example, Kenny Foster won the Penn Relays 10K, Julian de Rubira clocked an 8:40 steeplechase PR, John Yatsko ran a 4:06 mile PR, Christie Foster was the top US female at the Rite Aid Cleveland Half Marathon, and Ben Hahn ran a new PR of 14:13 in the 5K. With the right funding and development, the sky is the limit!
Lastly, we all move to Mancos September 1, 2012. Please help us make this documentary a reality.
Look for the movie trailers/updates monthly and the actual documentary to be completed and released in August of 2016.
