About this project
Hello, people of the Earth!
You are amazing! With your help we have reached our goal of 2,400 within the very first day, and what we have to say about this is:
Why we are asking to keep this project alive is that we only asked for a small part of the whole sum.
Here are the real numbers:
Strings recording, 3 x 3 hour sessions £740
Drum recording, 2 x 6 hour session £740
Bass recording £317
Guitar recording £317
Travel to the UK and back £591
Visas for recording in the UK £175
UK piano recording 3 x 6 hour session £ 1760
Piano tuner for the 3 days £270
These expenses already total more than £7000 and the list is not even complete yet!
Plus, the prime cost of all the beauties that we offer you here, is something like 40%. And this is why we are asking for your help.
If you already backet but would like to help us more, please go to our site - you'll find all our rewards available for PayPal purchase.
And now, the story itself!
The main heroes of this project is a couple of Russian musicians, students, Marjana and Gleb, and an experienced sound engineer from the UK, Marcel Van Limbeek, who's been working with Tori Amos for the past 20 years already, recorded and mixed all her albums (some platinum ones among them) and recently met these two young people with their debut album and a lot of plans for the second one.
What you are reading right now is a story about a band called "iamthemorning". We were not able to make Kickstarter campaign ourselves because of our location, but we were lucky to meet wonderful Marcel Van Limbeek who made an account for us.
My name is Marjana, I am the band’s voice.
We live in magnificent and cold St. Petersburg often called a “cultural capital” of the country. Beautiful country that, however suffered through many changes, is still keeping rich musical heritage of glorious composers of the past.
Our band was founded in autumn 2010 by our piano player Gleb Kolyadin and me, Marjana. We play together with other very talented and skilled musicians: a guitarist, a bass guitarist, a drummer and from two to ten string players (depending on the occasion).
Here we are with a whole chamber string orchestra!
We are a bit geeky about musicianship so everyone who has ever played with us has classical music education.
Our self-produced, self-recorded and self-printed handmade debut album was released in April 2012 and somehow drew a bit of attention of international progressive rock community, which was extremely pleasant, so now we appear in best-sellers list of Bandcamp from time to time and appear in different progressive music TOPs. You may dowload it for free or for any donation on Bandcamp
What it is all about.
Now, after 2.5 years of our existence we are ready to make another big step and record our second album. It is almost unbelievable, but we’ve got an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with a wonderful Marcel Van Limbeek, the remarkably talented sound engineer who has been working with Tori Amos for the last 20 years, recording, mixing and mastering her albums.
We'd hate to miss this chance so we are working hard to find the appropriate amount of money to go to London and record grand piano and vocals there.
Sadly, we just can’t make it with our personal savings, even supported by all these wonderful people who bought our first album on Bandcamp (THANK YOU!!!!). .
As there is no other way to make our dream come true, we decided to overcome our shyness and pessimism and start a crowdfunding campaign here and on a special page at our site for our Russian listeners.
This is what our rewards are going to be:
Link to the album download a day before the official digital and physical release.
A really beautiful edition of the album: digi-pack in a special slipcase, made exclusively for preorders (I promise, this is going to be something special!)
A wooden flash-card with engraving, placed in a silk sack, containing our second album
A wooden casket, containing exclusive edition of the album, personalized signed poster and a cute surprise from the band (several of them and they are cute!).
A beautiful book in a hard cover, half-handmade, containing music sheets, lyrics, artworks and a lot more, personally signed for you. The amount of these books are very limited.
And some new stretch goals!
Musician edition: a musical puzzle from iamthemorning. Download an archive with wav-files (one instrument each) and construct your own intermission in any musical editor (to check out our intermissions, visit our Bandcamp). Send your version to firstname.lastname@example.org with "#intermission" hashtag and in September we'll upload all of them to our Soundcloud and the most "likable" will win a casket! The Archive will be sent to you after the end of KS campaign.
Personalized video greeting with IATM song! Choose this reward and you'll get your own personal video with our vocalist Marjana thanking you and a piano + vocals iamthemorning song of your choise (message us to let us know what song from our first album you'd like us to play).
For true collectors: an oil painting, size A2 ( 420mm x 594mm), from our wonderful artist that makes art for our albums. The original oil painting that you'll have will be used in our second album artwork (we'll have lots of it). And you will be able to put it in a frame and hang it on the wall! We may even sign it if you'd like us to!
This is how art for the first album looked like (that's watercolor):
And the last one is for those generous people who is sure that we have a beautiful future: "Special Thanks for making this happen" section on the edition of our album! Right next to the musicians!
Why do we need your help at all?
All the money collected here will be spent on London recordings.
Grand piano+vocals recording costs £350 per six hours, we'll need three evenings minimum (we'll mostly spend them for the grand piano, because we have a chance to record some of the vocals in London free of charge, however, in a very well-equipped studio and best vocal mics ever).
£500 for the studio sound engineer assistance during the recordings.
£400 is for fees and taxes
It will also take £350 for travelling and £165 for visas and a lot for accommodation. We tried to keep the pledged sum as low as possible and really hope that we'll manage to reach the goal.
Risks and challenges
The main point here is that for our 2nd album we actually need approximately three times more than the sum of the Kickstarter project. We have already skratched up about £2000, but we still need another £2000 for the recordings in Russia: drums, bass guitar, guitar, string quartet, harp, cymbals and some other instruments. We hope to gather these on our Russian croudfunding page. The last, but not the least part is £2000 that we're applying for here.
Our biggest concern so far is that they will not give us visas to enter the country. That would be the most ridiculous failure of all times. But we have collected so many documents for our visa applications that we believe we have this covered.
All in all, we really hope you will help us to reach our goal of £2400, because "all or nothing" Kickstarter system won't help us otherwise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
