We Summoned A Demon is a new horror-comedy short film about a demon who comes up from the depths to punish when someone does a spell or ritual or makes a potion incorrectly. Or even if they do a ritual that doesn't exist. Basically if you mess with dark stuff when you shouldn't be he's gonna get ya. You don't just get to go home and go to bed like everything is fine after you tried some good luck spell you read about on the internet, he'll make sure of it. However, there is a way to get him off your back, but if I tell you that there won't really be anything new for you to find out in the movie. So I won't tell you.
The story follows Kirk and Carlos as they do a ritual to make Kirk cool. Carlos is into paranormal stuff and heard about the ritual from his cousin who heard it from a guy in a bar at Mardis Gras. They do a whole bunch of things wrong with it or maybe the ritual is fake and the demon is summoned. The demon is not smiling cuz he's happy to see them. He is there to mess them up. Can Kirk and Carlos figure out the way to defeat him? Maybe. Maybe not, But there will be blood.
We kickstarted our last 2 short films and they have had some success out there. Together they've played in around 200 film festivals around the world including the top genre fests like Fantastic Fest, Sitges, Fantasia, FrightFest and ScreamFest. Have been official selections of 13 of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation. And won some awards like Best Short at Bruce Campbell's Horror Film Festival and Best Short in the Dead Shorts section at Leeds International Film Festival. Also Bad Guy #2 got a Vimeo Staff Pick. So you can trust us to complete the project and do our best to make sure it gets seen by audiences. You can check out Bad Guy #2 below. Death Metal is still playing festivals and isn't online yet. But there's a teaser. If you get the $50 reward you can get it on blu-ray along with Bad Guy #2 and We Summoned A Demon.
I love practical effects. I think it has something to do with the movies I grew up on. Horror films from the 80's. Our last 2 shorts used them and We Summoned A Demon will go the practical route as well. My favorite movie is An American Werewolf In London and my favorite monster is a werewolf. Even Teen Wolf is cool. But man, when they go CG with a werewolf I get so sad. So of course we are creating the demon practically. That and all the gore gags that happen in the movie.
So why another short film Chris? For one thing I love making stuff. Another thing is the first feature film I want to make is a werewolf horror-comedy and I want to get some experience working with creature design. Everything from working with concept artists to the sculpting stage to directing an actor in a suit. And this has 1 demon which I think will get me ready before I jump in to something with a dozen werewolves.
Here is the poster designed by Caleb Sawyer and Denny Philips with logo by Andrew Hoke. We will update this section with more art as the campaign rolls on.
VHS Box Art
Here is some of the demon concept art by Caleb Sawyer and John LaPrime. We'll also start putting any early sculpting pics of him that may happen later.
He'll be cloaked in a hoodie until he reveals himself. So when people first see him in the shadows you can't quite tell if he's human or what. He loves his job of messing people up and scaring them so he has a constant grin...its also creepy. The eyes light up to help see in any kind of environment and where he comes from it's very dark....and its also creepy.
