What the *&#^ is this show?

Um, excuse me, language. An irreverent send-up of life as a twentysomething in New York, OFF is a brand new web comedy that follows young actors as they navigate the eccentric off-off-off Broadway theater scene while trying to keep a straight face.

It’s been a year since graduating college and moving to “The Big Apple,” and things aren’t looking up for Ted Sandoval. Despite his best friend Alex’s objections, Ted has all but decided to abandon his dreams of acting for just about anything else. But when a “visionary” young director offers him a small part in a Twilight-infused production of Romeo and Juliet, it seems like his luck is about to change.

Season 1 consists of seven 10-minute episodes that follow Ted, Alex, and the cast and crew of Romeo and Juliet as they act their way through the piss-stained streets of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the bridges in between.

He has directed a diverse range of projects including narrative shorts, music videos, straight plays, and musicals. He recently directed the folk-rock musical Independents (New York Times Critics' Pick, Huffington Post Best Shows of 2012).

Keith Rubin (writer) is a New York City-based actor, improviser, writer, and musician. He holds a degree in Theater from Yale, where he directed and performed with the Exit Players, Yale's oldest improv group. In New York, Keith has co-created and performed in a number of original pieces, including 1927 (ArsNova) and Ms. Bovary (Access Theater). In addition, he has appeared in several webseries, including RomDotCom, Seeking Sublet, and Life Sucks. Backstage Magazine has described his work as "one of those great moments where the actor really made the character." He performs improv regularly at the PIT with his improv team, the Punctual Drunks.

Tom Sanchez (writer)  is a recent graduate of Yale University and was a member of the Yale Dramatic Association and the Yale Exit Players, Yale's oldest improv comedy group. He was recently seen in Independents (2012 Fringe Festival Best Overall Production, New York Times Critics Pick) where he was described by the New York Times as "effortlessly hilarious." Where the !*@& is my money going?

Ok, we'll play it your way. Your contribution will enable us to fund a !@&#-load of important parts of this project:

-Production Costs: From location fees and permits to equipment rental and transportation, to costumes and props, these expenses can add up.
-Personnel Costs: While our cast and crew are generously contributing their time pro bono (it’s a passion project!), we still need to make sure that everyone is fed and gets to and from set safely.
-Post-production Costs: A lot of what makes or breaks a show happens after the cameras stop rolling. Expenses like film and sound editing, music, and design elements are essential to make the show look fantastic.

Risks and challenges

Like any project, there are obstacles and delays that may come up along the way. However, the OFF team is a group of dedicated and experienced professionals who are both accustomed to and prepared for the challenges of production.

In any production of this size, there are a few obstacles to keep an eye out for: 1) Funds, 2) Cast/Crew, 3) Locations, and 4) the uncontrollable—weather and such! We recognize that the downfall of the Kickstarter model is that if we fail to meet our fundraising goal, we will not receive any of your generous donations. We know that we will need a large cast/crew to help make production run smoothly, but not only do we already have an excellent/experienced team in place, we also all have many friends and contacts who are excited and eager to get involved. Shooting locations in NYC can be tricky, but we wrote the script with practicality in mind and do not need to rent more than one or two simple locations. And ah, weather! It is winter and a cold one at that…but, we have built this uncertainty into our schedule and have a reserve of extra shooting days we can utilize if anything goes wrong.

We are unswervingly committed to making OFF a reality! We feel confident that we possess the tools to execute this project and feel excited and passionate about taking on the challenge. With your support, we know that we can bring this hilarious and heartfelt story to life! Thank you so much for your time and your consideration.
