Each of our knives is handcrafted so the 54-59 HRC is indeed an average. This range is in-line with some of the best professional knives on the market, and this knife is actually award-winning!
The blade of Achilles is hardened using a nitrogen shock cooling technique which raises the blades hardness to a HRC of 59. Since the handle does not receive this treatment it remains at the original level of hardness. This is why we are specifying an average for the product as a whole, it is obviously one piece of steel and we wanted to be fair in the information presented.

We have every intention of shipping all rewards so that they leave our warehouses by early September. That means about 95% of backers (who fill out their fulfillment surveys correctly and on time) should get their new products by the end of September. We’re very well-established and have successfully delivered to our previous backers. We always promise to be transparent and keep you updated should something delay the anticipated delivery date.
