About

I͛ve spent the last light-year working on creating this evocative card game; from concept to campaign, I have created the cards, the rules, the graphics (the cards, card back*, logo and box), the game͛s manual and online contents. After a session of extensive playtesting I have since been able to design and set up this campaign to raise the funds to bring the game to life!
*I have created the card back image using the exciting Apophysis 7X programme which is a fractal image creator software. Send me a message if you͛d like more info!

What's inside? On the outside there͛s a beautiful and elegant printed metal tin that ensures that the game cards are kept safe at all times.

But What’s Inside? Sometimes it is wise to judge a book by its cover (or a game by its tin). The artwork style that is presented on the game͛s tin is reflected in the artwork on the 54 game cards and full colour game manual. The cards will be printed on smooth finish 300gsm professional quality card stock with a blue core layer, but through a stretch goal I hope to upgrade the card to linen finish 310gsm for every backer. Also inside, you will find a QR code that will link to a ͚How To Play͛ video for those of you who learn better through watching than reading!

What is the Premise of the Game? The game is in essence a representation of life as a star in a chaotic universe. Each player is a young star that is trying to form their very own planetary system in which to reside. ͞Why?͟ you might ask... Well, why not? You͛re a star; one of the most epic unbelievably high powered celestial bodies in the universe, a luminous sphere of plasma held together by its own gravity! And stars are the centre point of a planetary system. In this game, only your fellow stars (players) can stop you. Let͛s start playing!

Some random cards
Some random cards

Playing the Game: To begin, deal four cards to every player. The cards are all planets that can be used in different ways; you can use them to attract lonely planets to you with your gravity (simply put a planet card on the board in front of you) or you can convert a planet's mass into pure energy to do exciting things like destroy planets that belong to your friends, scupper your friends' game strategies and destroy the relationships between your friends, draw new cards and even play extra cards in one turn! Another fun way to use your cards is to discard them in order to annihilate planets that belong to other players (but only if the planets have the same mass).

But why do you need to destroy other planets?
The answer is simple – the first person to control five planers wins the game! So you'll need to destroy other players' cards in order to expand and conquer! Looks simple? Yes. I've always thought that games should be simple to learn because when we want to play, we want to play right away! But simple-to-learn doesn't mean that the game is simple to play. I've created this game to have overpowered cards which need strategy to play. In ENTROPIA, you can chain effects in different ways; you can play strategically to be greedy for fast deployment of planets, or you can play a bothersome strategy to keep other players low in resources, or you can be balances, chaotic or limitless... It's up to you! The methods above are only some of the ways to bring victory to your door though there are no single card combos that will win you the game. In a year of playtesting nobody has found a single combo to score an instant win. Nobody likes a game that is over before it's even begun!

What I've always enjoyed in games is the ability for the players to make crucial choices, to experiment and to plan. In ENTROPIA I wanted to extend this appreciation, offering the players not only the choice of which card to play, but also WHICH card effect to play. This way, even though the same cards get played each time, they offer the ability to change the game in different ways each time the game is played. For this reason, I think ENTROPIA has a depth that allows it to be played over and over again in a fast and fun way!

Here some effects that I like a lot:
When you attract this planet, draw a card from the deck
OR from the top of the discard pile.
When you attract this planet, the player of your choice must discard a card.
The fusion effect just played has no effect.
Draw a card of your choice from the discard pile.
Draw a card at random from one player.

I must thank some backers for their questions about the game. Yes, there are several ways to play ENTROPY.

Classic - from 2 to 6 players, (4 players is particularly good)
Teams – 2 players versus 2 or a 2v2v2 team game, each team with their own mechanics and team strategies
BBBB - Big Bad Boss Battle a 1v2 or 1v3 battle mode game with specific unfair rules (this method is currently being tested)

All of these modes and future ones will be available on the ENTROPIA website and blog, and possibly also in the form of a free pdf for those who want to print these special rules.

This game is not intended to be sold on stores, online, or suchlike, neither now nor after the campaign ends. Without Kickstarter this game probably will never be printed so KS seems to be the best way to turn this concept into a reality!

- A NOTE ABOUT DELIVERY -

If everything goes smoothly I am aiming to start packaging and shipping the game to you before Christmas, but I can't predict that with accuracy so I have set the delivery date to January 2018. If stretch goals are reached we will be looking at a 20 day period to design the expansion.

Thank you for looking at this project. I hope that you love the idea enough to back the project and please take a moment to share the Kickstarter page far and wide amongst your friends... The way these campaigns succeed is through word of mouth and I would appreciate any shares you can spare.

And like as Carl Sagan said wisely:

IF WE DO NOT DESTROY OURSELVES

WE WILL ONE DAY

VENTURE TO THE STARS.

Risks and challenges

The game is ready so, in theory, nothing extra should need to be done. I honestly think that the only risk of delay may come from the factory or/and the postal service. My stretch goals will be limited as this is my first campaign and I hope that everything will go smoothly and without a hitch.
