About Street Dance

This documentary takes place primarily in Metro Manila, Philippines, one of the most densely populated metropolitan areas in the world. Out of this population are tens of thousands of "street children"; children who have been neglected or abused in one way or another and have chosen to live in the streets or have simply been abandoned by their families and have been left to fend for themselves. Street children face daily hardships including drug addiction, health concerns, child prostitution and other forms of child abuse and would seemingly have no where to turn. Street Dance is an uplifting documentary which studies one particular group of street children from their early lives as children of the streets, their introduction to a foundation dedicated to the caring, healing, teaching and ultimately the reintegration of these children into mainstream society. The children that are followed in this film are given the opportunity to enter a ballet program sponsored by the foundation. We will follow them through their journey over a period of 3 years documenting their ups and downs, trials and tribulations and hopefully through to their ultimate success.

Background and Current Status

The idea behind the documentary is the brainchild of Andreas Maluche, the films director and Greg Garcia. Andreas brought the idea to Bob Clark and Dale Tippin, the films producers and together with our production company, One World Studios, they endeavoured to turn the idea into an actual documentary film. Concepts and ideas floated around for a few months and actual filming began in December 2013. As of this writing in March 2015 the project team has made significant headway by researching, filming and documenting as well as meeting with people who have been willing and able to assist us in attaining our vision of the film in it's final version. We still have two and a half years to go! So lets go :-) There also have been some amazing developments happening. We will let you know about those very soon.

Why Should You be a Backer of this Film

Anyone who is intrigued by or who already has a working knowledge of the plight of street children will gain further understanding through this film. The film is not the typical "in your face" documentary about homeless children but rather an examination of what was and what could be. This documentary takes the viewer inside the lives of the children of which the film is about and hopefully will leave each viewer with a new perspective.

 Our Budget

Kickstarter Budget Goal, $ 38,000

For the past year we have been financing our documentary film on our own and we will continue to do so as much as we can. But, we need your help. Our Kickstarter budget goal of $ 38,000 represents about 45% of our total anticipated costs, which include;

  • Research
  • Interviews
  • Video and photo shoots
  • Hardware/Software
  • Production of the trailer
  • Legal support
  • Production management
  • Narrator
  • Sound recording
  • Editor, video and sound
  • Original music composition
  • Computer graphics
  • Transcriptions
  • Project page maintenance
  • Project rewards
  • Kickstarter fees and other fees
  • Book keeping and accounting
  • Overhead and administrative costs
  • Transportation
  • Miscellaneous expenses
  • Contingencies

In addition to this we anticipate that one or more of the ballet students may eventually be invited to study at the Royal School of Ballet in London, so we have earmarked a portion of our budget to film them while they are there.

Of course if we exceed our budget goal those funds will be used toward the other budget expenses.

Risks and challenges

We really hope everything will move smoothly but of course there is always something.
We have been filming for one and half years so far with no problem whatsoever.
Although we are focusing on the most promising children we are covering everybody so we are not depending one particular person.
We are a strong team and if something should happen to one of us, other people could jump in at any time.
