About this project
Bluecup: why and what
Nice coffee is something quite personal. If you love coffee you probably agree with us. But when you think the range of expensive capsules for your Nespresso machine has become a bit standard, you might feel you did too many concessions on that nice homemade coffee of yours. Then Kickstarter coffee lovers and Nespresso system users, Bluecup can be interesting for you. Because you love coffee and the Nespresso machine, but taste of your coffee has become a bit standard and expensive, and recycling a bit awkward.
Bluecup is a new concept that consists of reusable, refillable capsules compatible for common Nespresso machines. Bleucup can be used at least 100x. And we can say you can use it even far more times. However, we like to be on the safe side with our prototype.
By reusing Bluecup, you can save money. Based on reasonable and fair market prices for espresso grind, the price per Bluecup serving is 50% less than Nespresso serving and 20% less than other servings of disposable capsules.
Bluecup capsules come with a set of replaceable foils, a cupcreator and a spoon, to fill capsules easily and efficient. With Bluecup you can enjoy delicious cups of coffee made of your favorite espresso grind. You choose your own flavor: you can decide to make your own grind from fresh roasted beans, you can buy from your local espresso boutique, or you can finally use that fairtrade espresso. You can let others benefit too by using Bluecup!
It's sometimes possible to recycle capsules, but we have a feeling this isn't done significantly worldwide compared to the waste created each day. Our best calculation is each day approximately 25.000.000 capsules are wasted around the world (based on desk research). With Bluecup you enjoy your cup of coffee with less waste. That's what we call: great taste, less waste.
Bluecup: how does it work
To create your Bluecup capsules is very easy. Simply take a capsule filled with your espresso and put into the cupcreator. Then put a foil on top of the capsule, close turn and twist the cupcreator, and it's all set. Creating your capsule goes even faster than warming up your machine.
Using Bluecup within a Nespresso machine, quality of the coffee is guaranteed. Bluecup makes no deformations to the system nor the capsule itself is damaged. We tested the extraction process to make sure the capsules would fit perfectly. Bluecup is compatible with stand-alone Nespresso systems. Please read further through our design evolution where we decribe how we tested the different designs before we came up with our final prototype, compatible for Nespresso systems to make perfect espresso quality.
Bluecup: unique combination of benefits
We think you'll love Bluecup for different or any reason. We tried to mention the benefits in any order, of which we believe together these will make Bluecup a unique concept:
- Fun: fill, close and twist Bluecups in no-time with spoon & cupcreator
- Favorite: respect the individual taste, use your own coffee
Refillable: reuse by refill (>) 100x. No dirty hands
- Less waste: save a pile ofwaste. Do your own recycling
- Best priced: based on reasonable and fair market prices of coffee
- Quality: no watery coffee. Just espresso
Design evolution of Bluecup by testing
The capsule was tested with different espresso grind and degree of tamping, as servings were measured on density of the coffee and water residues in the receptacle. The right size and shape of the capsule was perfected in use with most common Nespresso systems, as soon as coffee turned out to be superb: on body, crema, colour, aroma, taste and length of taste. If you like to know more about our tests, feel free to ask.
The right flatness and thickness of the foil had to be thought through as well, until it was perfectly compatible with the capsule and the cupcreator. The cupcreator and spoon were especially designed for an endless, easy filling, closing and turning of Bluecups capsules.
Bluecup was tested for over a thousand times and a lot more. We can say by now that we've got our prototype, Bluecup is very compatible with common Nespresso systems and with espresso grind at middle grade. Please check our FAQ to see if all your questions on materials, safety and system use are answered. If not, please let us know as we would love to tell you more.
Please select your Bluecup pledge
If you read this all, we assume that you would like to back the Bluecup project. We would appreciate it very much. Our pledges start at EUR 5 up to EUR 500 or more.
Please have a look at the side menu above right, and click one to select. As Kickstarters will know, and new people on Kickstarter might not know: registration is safe an simple. You'll need -someones- creditcard to pledge. It will only be charged for your selected pledge, and only when the Bluecup project is backed EUR 50,000 by September.
Production and delivery of Bluecup
If you have questions or suggestions on Bluecup, please let us know. We appreciate that and look forward to talk with you. We also have ideas to develop for the second phase, but it all starts at the beginning. The challenge is to build audience in a niche market, so please like and share Bluecup with your family and friends.
On Kickstarter, the Bluecup project needs to be finalised by September. If funded, we can start building the right molds in October. We calculated on a realistic planning, as we need 2 months to test pre-production and pilot. It took us for over a year to test our final prototype, so we really need this planning to make sure we deliver perfect Bluecups. Bluecup production will start in January to get the Kickstarters Bluecups delivered February.
Risks and challenges
We have spent almost a year on designing, testing, and optimising. Bluecup is now a prototype, during crowdfunding in September we can optimise Bluecup design. We know already with whom and when to start production, so that we are ready to start according to planning.
There are always certain risk of unforeseen circumstances in a planning. However we can say we work comfortable an on schedule with this time line. The common risks will be obtaining raw materials, packaging, and shipment. We will make sure to give frequent updates about the progress, so that you'll always be informed on the status of our project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
