About

Bounty Hunter: Rise Up & Run is a unique classroom game because it is not quiz based. With Bounty Hunter: Rise Up & Run, students need to create their own slope fraction in order to move around the playing field. Because players are creating the slopes they need, their understanding of this concept is amplified.

A typical classroom game that reviews the concept of slope is usually one of two types.
1) A matching game where students pair given slopes and lines.
2) A game where a player gives a correct answer to a given question and gets to do something unrelated to slope in the game.
Bounty Hunter: Rise Up & Run is different from a typical classroom game, in that the players have more choice and control over game play. Take a look at the image below:

In the above image, you can see that the character could possibly reach 3 objects in his next move. If the player is able to create a slope of -3/3, he would be able to land on the lock pick - OR - if he is able to make a slope of 0/(-5), he could get the gold gem - OR - if he is able to create a slope of -4/6, he could capture the white gem.
There are many teachable moments in this single move; 0 slopes, reducing, equivalent fractions, etc.
The feedback given to the player is more valuable in this game than in others already on the market. When a student gives the wrong answer in a quiz-based game, the teacher may go over it, but they student may not be interested or engaged. However, in Bounty Hunter: Rise Up & Run, if a student wanted to capture an object and creates the incorrect slope, he would see his character move in the wrong direction. This consequence would provide immediate feedback to the learner.

The game was originally created for students studying Algebra 1. However, the game mechanics and rules are simple enough that children as young as 10 can play without prior knowledge of slope or fractions. The game is also suitable for adults who love playing games.

In Bounty Hunter: Rise Up & Run, the players can be on the bounty hunter team or the jewel thief team. The players on the bounty hunter team are moving around the board, trying to capture jewel thieves to place them in jail. But, be careful because they may escape. The jewel thieves are moving around the board trying to steal gems before they are caught and put in captivity.

I have been playing Bounty Hunter: Rise Up & Run in my classroom since 2011. I could tell that students understood the material better after playing the game but until this year, I never conducted any formal research. Informal studies show that students increase their knowledge of finding slope from a graph by 18% from playing this game.

"I liked it a lot it was very fun." C. C.
"I thought it was very helpful because I understood it a lot more." J. F.
"I was scared I wasn't going to learn it in time, but was simple." P. S.
"IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!" K. G.
"After watching 2-3 people play I understood how to play and it was really easy and fun." C. M.

Starting a business in no joke. Once we looked into the cost of starting one, we realized we were going to need some financial assistance. The funding goal will help to cover the cost of starting a business and purchasing the necessary computer equipment to create/finish the game.

$2800: We will add two more themes to the game.
$3600: We will add another two themes to the game.
$4400: We will add yet another two themes to the game.
The default theme of the game is desert. Additional themes could include City, Tech, Space, Medieval, Unicorn & Rainbows, Underwater, Pre-historic, or Pet. Beta testers will vote for their favorite theme for stretch goals.

I know that my students enjoy playing Bounty Hunter: Rise Up & Run and yours will, too. It has been a challenge to share my educational games with others. However, you can help change that difficult task. With your assistance, we can make my classroom games (starting with Bounty Hunter) accessible to everyone. Thank you!
