About this project
I intend to spend the next 8 months reaching out to patients, psychiatrists, and pharmaceutical companies to get the real life stories of people who are currently dealing with some type of mental diagnosis, and their treatment. My persona will be that of the investigator. My film will speak to others who have been diagnosed, and everyone who has ever self diagnosed themselves.
My focus is on medication, and when is one actually necessary. With the DSM 5 coming out listing over 300 mental disorders in a 950 page text and the widespread increase of mental illness diagnosis, I would like to define what is a "disorder" and what is simply a unique personable trait.
I will address the concerns with modern pharmaceuticals and their affect on the treatment and diagnosis of mental illness. In the end I intend to gain a better understanding on diagnosis while using my skills as a filmmaker to create a story that everyone will be able to relate to and engage with.
