LET THERE BE INK! You may have noticed that none of the backer levels have a print copy of the book included. This is, unfortunately, intentional. A print edition is planned, but it will be included as an add-on because the book may need to be offered at or near my cost in order to be priced fairly to you. That means that I need to make sure that the project will be out of the red (which happens the second I hit goal) before I make any promises. Let's get this ball rolling so I can have this book in your hands as soon as possible!
About Ronin: Ronin is a brand new Savage Worlds setting book complete with Plot Point Adventure as well as a cyberpunk and post-apocalyptic toolkit. This project will be the premier product line for my new company, Glove & Goggle Labs. Our mission is to provide quality gaming products that work well, look beautiful and get out of your way so that the story can be told.
I think you will find Ronin to be an exciting new spin on an old dystopian dynamic. The streets are still a horrific place. The shining palaces of the rich and powerful are still grotesquely opulent and ornate. Corporations still run what is left of the world they have helped to destroy, but lying amongst the rubble there are faint glimmers of hope. Just don't let those glimmers fool you in to thinking the world is going to change without problems. It is a rare thing indeed for those in power to let go of it easily.
So you're reading this now and saying, "Yeah, that sounds like every other cyberpunk setting. Why should I invest in yours?"
Fair question friend. In addition to the glimmering towers and desolate barrens of the traditional cyberpunk landscape, you will also find an irradiated post-apocalyptic waste full of genetically designed super-predator bio-horrors beyond the walls of the metroplexes that sparsely dot the globe. Humanity has been splintered as well, with almost every conceivable combination of biological and synthetic humanoid imaginable walking the streets. From full conversion cyborgs to genetic cross-species splicing, it's all out there and ready for your character sheet. Last but not least, there is virtual reality and the new breed of technomancers known as Sirens that are slowly becoming its masters. Oh, and don't forget the orbital platforms. Anyone with real money left this dirt ball a while back.
Project Status: Currently, Ronin: Chrome & Shadows is coming along nicely. I have received licensing from Pinnacle Entertainment Group, and preliminary negotiations with Adam Kuczek, the artist, have gone exceptionally well.
The mechanics of the game (including gear lists, edges, hindrances and other core functional elements) are currently written and in alpha testing with my gaming group, the Glove & Goggle Irregulars. So far, there have been only minor tweaks. I am very happy with this aspect of the project. The mechanics methodology for Ronin is to keep things simple yet robust. What I mean by this is that the rules are designed to be streamlined and efficient without sacrificing the flavor of the cyberpunk and post-apocalyptic genres.
While the main elements have been established, the setting details and other 'fluff' is still in the process of being fully fleshed out, and will continue to be modified as the project moves forward. Of course, some elements of this area of the project can be influenced by you, the backers! Hopefully, your name and ideas will show up somewhere in these sections of the book!
Risks and challenges
This is my first time at bat as a professional writer. In several aspects of this process I am a total greenhorn. However, I have a passion for this project, and I have done as much legwork as I can to avoid any problems I see coming. These problems include product manufacturing, product distribution and shipping expenses. Being half way through my MBA has definitely helped me assess these issues, and I feel certain that I have accounted for as much as anyone can before the rubber meets the road.
With that said, not all problems are able to be foreseen (they likely wouldn't become problems if they could be), but I am willing to devote as much of myself as is necessary to make this project work. Anyone who knows me will tell you I never do anything half way, and if you will trust me to take this project and run with it, I know you will like the results.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
