Second City Sauces was born from a love of hot sauce. Recently I've measured my personal collection of hot sauces at over 50 bottles. I've taken that passion for sauce and implemented my years of design experience to bring a truly unique sauce to the market. While not finished yet, with your help, I hope to create a hot sauce business that can put out new sauces regularly inspired by the city of Chicago. I've taken inspiration from the sprawling transit system here in Chicago and created several sauces that reflect the unique atmosphere that the provides.
This sauce is made of red peppers, habaneros, roasted garlic, carrots, grapeseed oil, and Hawaiian pink crystal salt.
This sauce is made of cranberries boiled with mint, cinnamon, red thai chilies and then blended with grapeseed oil and french grey salt.
This sauce is made of jalapeños, malt vinegar, fire-roasted poblanos, grapeseed oil and seasoned with black volcanic salt and coriander.
Peppers and other ingredients will be provided by local farmers throughout the Midwest who I trust to provide quality products that will contribute to making the best sauce possible. I've gone to farmers markets throughout the city looking for the best ingredients in order to provide a fresh and spicy sauce that will please the pallet.
The Hatchery is a one-stop-shop. It’s a 67,000 square foot production facility has everything entrepreneurs in the food and beverage space could need. This includes turnkey, health department-certified kitchen space, cold/dry/freezer storage, loading/receiving docks, food truck allocation, co-working space, meeting rooms, event space, and on-site support from industry experts.
My funding will primarily go towards permits and licenses required by the state of Illinois as well as ingredients for the sauces. Bottles, closures, and labels will be a minor expense, but those costs may vary depending on the reception to the campaign. (detailed cost breakdown will be visually represented)
Risks and challenges
I've never released a food product before. With the help of The Hatchery here in Chicago and my teachers here at UIC, I hope to overcome any challenges I might encounter. Also, due to legal limitations, I will be applying for an LLC and food sanitation permits, so there might be some delays due to that.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
