Primahood: The Second Album is a stand-alone 24-page book of MamaPants cartoon vignettes and Primazon drawings that work together to playfully explore gender in an exchange between comics and fine art. The Primazons have been described as shamanic; they are feral, while still being cultured. MamaPants, on the other hand, relay real-life moments in parenting a young daughter as she moves into the larger social world. Funny, uncomfortable, surreal: welcome to Primazonia! Your contribution would fund the printing of this book, helping to get it out to YOU and to the larger world, continuing what was started in the first book.
Praise for the first issue:
From Review Time by Greg Burgas at Comic Book Resources (http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2011/11/15/review-time-with-primahood/): "This comic made me think far more than you’d think a slim, 27-page volume would....DIY comics are pretty awesome, and Cohen has a lot to say in these few pages....Cohen’s art...is fascinating.”
Roberta Gregory (Naughty Bits): “Primazons, beautifully drawn and very challenging, but in a good way. The Primazons live in one-page stories told with pictures that are worth a thousand words... but some of them are words that are not yet a part of our language. Mamapants explores what it is to be female, to be a mother, to be a child, told in beautifully expressive drawings.”
MariNaomi (Kiss & Tell):"A charming, complex look into femaleness."
Kris Dresen, (Gone, She Said, Manya): “Tyler Cohen’s Primahood is what it is -- the fine art of motherhood. And Tyler executes it exquisitely.” ~
Tomas Moniz(Rad Dad: Dispatches from the Frontiers of Fatherhood):Deciding what’s important as a parent is relatively easy; it’s when your kids decide something else that the irony, the pain, and the hilarity of being a radical parent hit you in the face. Tyler Cohen’s images and words in Primahood capture it all!
