Who We Are
Serenity Over Stress Soap Company was started through a necessity my husband and I had.
You see, our son has a sensory processing disorder, Autism, and anxiety. He doesn't like water; he doesn't like the feel of it on his skin. He doesn't like to wash his hands or take baths and showers. We tried so many things to help him, store bought bubble baths, kids bath paints, toys, you name it we tried it, and yet nothing seemed to help.
Every bath was a struggle and a fight. My son has a dog that sometimes gets in the tub with him and this helps to calm him. This seemed to help occasionally, but what a fiasco that would be, the dog would jump in and out the tub, shake all over and get everything all wet.
Bath time became such an exhausting chore. I would find myself in tears and so stressed out after, I just didn't know what to do. Searching for answers and help online, I came across a video on YouTube of a bath bomb. I had never tried bath bombs before and really didn't even know what they were.
I was quite intrigued and excited to learn that I could make these on my own with all natural ingredients. I already used essential oils in my home to help my son with anxiety and stress, so bath bombs were worth a try.
I showed my son some videos of bath bombs, let him choose out a few to try and that was the start.
I believe it is a combination of essential oils, the fizz, the color changes, and the ingredients of the bath bombs that have helped ease the stress of bath time. He enjoys putting them in the water and watching them in action. It may have a calming effect to watch it fizz and spin around. When he touched the water he said that it made the water feel different on skin. He actually didn't want to get out of the bath!
Our name "Serenity Over Stress" reflects how we now feel about bath time. We took such a hard, stressful, everyday event and found a great way to ease his anxiety about the water and our stress about bath time.
We couldn't be more excited to share our bath bombs and lots of other bath and body products with your family. We would love to hear about your experiences and see how our products have helped your family.
Risks and challenges
There are not really any risks with this project.
The challenges would be being able to make all of the products and get the orders out in time. Our products are made to order to ensure freshness so they have to be shipped right after they are made. I'm sure we can overcome this by getting friends and family to help.
We also have the challenge of our package and labeling. Our current packaging is designed for selling at farmers markets and craft fairs. The package allows you to see the products, touch them and smell them. So, we would need to change our packaging or find a solution for shipping to ensure that the products are shipped and arrive in one piece without having to change the cost of products.
This will be a challenge but we are equipped to handle it and work toward a solution. We already have a distributor working on new labels.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
