About this project
1775 - Rebellion is a fast and fun playing game in which teams of players cooperate to further either the American or British cause in the North American colonies. Players will be cheering their victories in battle, groaning as their own men run away, or begging their allies for help. It is the type of game where people playing other games are wondering what the commotion is about and what game their neighbors are playing.

1775 - Rebellion is the second game in the 'Birth of America' series. The first game in the series, 1812 - The Invasion of Canada, is sold in museums and stores world wide. Thru Kickstarter's stretch goals, we will be able to make 1775's component quality and offerings even better!

In the mid 1760’s, Britain, in order to deal with their mounting debt from the French & Indian Wars, levied new taxes on the British colonies in America. This unfair trade and economic pressure turned many colonists from loyal British subjects into anti-British patriots. After the Tea Act of 1773 and other subsequent events, the boiling point was eventually reached, and the outbreak of rebellion was upon the British.
1775 - Rebellion from Academy Games is the new game in the Birth of America series by Beau Beckett and Jeph Stahl. It plays 2 to 4 players, utilizing team play when there are more than 2. Players take sides in the American Revolutionary War, trying to claim the American colonies for the Patriots, or crush the uprising as the British Regulars. Making things more challenging is the addition of the French as allies for the Patriots and the Hessians, hired by the British.
In each round, turn order is determined randomly by drawing a cube from the turn order bag.
That faction now takes its full turn: mustering units in towns of colonies they control, mobilizing units by playing card (from a hand of 3), and conducting combat if necessary. Once that's done, the player draws back up to a hand of three cards and another cube is drawn from the bag. The next drawn faction takes its complete turn. When all factions have gone, the round is over, and all cubes go back in the bag for the next round.
The movement cards show the number of units - or group of cubes - that can be moved, and also the maximum number spaces each unit may move. The Active player must play one and only one movement card each turn. But he may also additionally play up to two special cards if desired. These cards have varying powers that affect play.
When units are moved into a space occupied by the enemy, combat ensues. Conflicts are resolved with dice, and to reflect the differences between the troops, each faction has its own unique set of dice, each with a different combination of three possible results: hit, flee or command decision.
As you would expect, when you score a “hit”, an opposing unit is destroyed and removed from the map. A “flee” roll results in one of your units being removed from the map and placed in the Fled Units area on the board for later redeployment. A “command decision” roll gives the active player the choice to relocate units to adjacent friendly areas.
When a faction takes over a colony, they mark it with one of their Control Markers. And this, basically, is the game. Turn after turn of strategic placement, movement, and battles.
The game ends, when, at the end of a round all of the "Truce" cards, from one or both sides, have been played. The side with the most Control Markers wins.
If you back us here on Kickstarter, you will receive the game before anyone else. This game will not go to retail until after all of our backers have received their rewards.
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter campaign and we are pushing to not only successfully fund the project, but make a superior game and get the rewards to our backers on time.
Production delays have been an issue for us in the past. Either the printer sends us production samples not to our liking or games get hung up in customs. We at Academy Games also have a tendency of being really picky and this has led to delays in the past.
1775 includes a lot of wooden components and these have been a challenge in the past. Parts were mis-shaped, cracked or even missing. This time we will include extra wooden units of each color, in case a player finds a cube with quality issues.
Lastly, board warping!! Arghhhh. As our past customers know, our boards actually are very good. But a small percentage of you had warping issues. This happens mainly to customers in dry climates, like Arizona, where the humidity is very low. Our warehouses are in Ohio near Lake Erie. The humidity change can make a map board warp. This time around we are using a triple laminated core board, similar to plywood. In addition, the maps have a thin plastic film covering them to make the spill resistant, similar to 1812 - The Invasion of Canada maps. So hopefully this will resolve warping.
Quality is our main goal and we will do our best to keep you up to date on how production is going.
