Progress Pictures and Surveys!

Hi Everyone!

Sandra and I have been diligently advancing the dice towers project since funding closed. It has been easier to focus on cutting and assembling dice towers lately and I didn’t want to slow things down by publishing incomplete information (instead of cutting more dice towers).

Maker Faire was great! It was fun to walk around with two dice towers in hand. I saw a bunch of KickStarter projects and material suppliers there too.

I am happy to report that everyone that sees a dice tower in person says “the picture doesn’t do it justice” and the greatest praise I receive are from people who say they would never buy one (because they don’t game)!  They are very specific in their praise and critique, commenting on many of the design and use features without my prompting.

My latest goal was to select six acrylic colors and finish three dice towers of each wood type for pictures. We finished cutting/assembling last night and snapped pictures today (after work) as the sun was going down. Hopefully this will help in Wood and Window selection.  See pictures below:

http://www.uniquedicetowers.com/TowerSelect/

Final acrylic window colors are: Smoke, Purple, Orange, Blue, Clear, Green. Light colors were chosen so you could see dice tumbling, back window artwork and occasional back lighting.

Before the survey officially goes out I would like to

  • Take pictures outdoors during the day (but won’t be able to get to that till this weekend)
  • Create a relative ‘wood durability rating’ as all Dice Towers are not created equal
  • Generate acrylic window recommendations for each wood type

Bag of Holding Update! The bag company provided the wrong specs for embroidery, so I needed to modify the design.  The spirit of the bag remains unchanged but I had to fit the content in less space and change a font to improve readability.  Here is the latest design we submitted:

What will be on the survey:

  • Ship to Address
  • Hardwood type
  • Assembly options (Fully Glued, "Don't Glue Front/Back", Fully Unassembled)
  • Acrylic window type
  • Engraving details
  • Optional: Waive engraving for expedited shipping?
  • Dice bag color selection
  • BOH bag color
Thanks again everyone for your interest. I would have never gone forward with this project without KickStarter and you the backer!

-John

Thanks John. I'll think about it and look over your images. I'm still undecided on wood type yet.

Have you figured out anything about relative wood durability?

    3. Creator John Redman on June 10, 2012

@Scott. I can build with RED if you like. I have a full sheet here. I ruled out all acrylic that is translucent (very dark red, can't see through in low light). You can special request. I won't be able to send pictues though so "Caveat Emptor".

I'm bummed no red! That goes great with that really dark red wood one.

Looks great, can't wait for mine.

MDF is shown in its natural color. finish was not applied.

Question. Are the MDF pics in the link w/o Linseed Oil finish? I just would like to get an idea of the color with the finish on it, so I can know if I want them and/or the Plywood ones.
      Thanks!

Don't forget the "Other Dice Towers Ordered" section. I increased my pledge so that I could get a 3mm Ply and MDF to go along with my hardwood.

What shipping method are you planning as that will determine what address I use? Thanks
