'The Violent Young' is a coming-of-age feature film about two women forced to re-examine their lives after a passionate encounter in the middle of nowhere. Read on for more details!
Hali is a woman in her mid-twenties struggling to find her place in life after an upbringing that left her alone and empty. She has lost her zest for life and lacks any sort of passion in her daily routine.
When she receives news about the passing of her estranged aunt and the inheritance of her desert home, Hali jumps at the opportunity to get away from the city that has left her drained and hopeless, and spend some time off-the-grid in the Southern California desert.
It is there that she meets Nora, a woman in her late-twenties who similarly fled from her uninspiring small town to spend some time away at her grandfather’s home.
Each with their own troubles to overcome, Hali and Nora form a unique connection that quickly escalates into a bond filled with passion, turmoil, and the courage they need to truly find themselves.
First and foremost, the main purpose of ‘The Violent Young’ is to tell a poignant story with realistic, relatable characters. A compelling story paves the road to success for any film, and in our case, we aim to tell a story about two women who are well into their adult lives and yet still find themselves at odds with what they really want out of life.
We also aim to put significant emphasis on the presence of powerful female actors and characters in the world of film. Not only are we setting out to tell a woman-centric story that appeals to any audience, but we are also aspiring to confront the undeniable gender bias in the film industry by having a production crew that is at least 75% female.
Over the past few years, independent filmmaking has seen an appreciated rise in LGBTQ-themed films, but we believe there is plenty of room for improvement in this area as well, and it is still a challenge to get films like this financed. We will push these themes forward by telling a different kind of love story, bringing awareness to the plethora of relationships and romances that can evolve between people of any gender, at any point in life.
With 'The Violent Young,' we want to prove that, at least in the world of independent filmmaking, we can put together an incredible, high-quality film on a microscopic budget. This means every dollar we raise has a very specific destination, and we will assign the majority of our budget to the physical production of the movie.
About 80% of our funds will be allocated to the actual production, which includes our locations, permits, equipment rentals, props and wardrobe, food, lodging, and most importantly, our talented cast and crew. We are fortunate to have found a wonderful team of passionate actors and filmmakers who are excited to bring their expertise and energy to this movie, and it is crucial to us that we take care of each and every one of them.
The remaining 20% of the budget will be put towards post-production, including editing, sound design/mixing, music and color correction.

Caitlin Crommett, Producer
Caitlin became obsessed with the film world when she was just a small child, creating her own characters and skits in her living room and having them filmed by whoever would watch. Her love for creating characters and stories developed into a passion so strong she majored in film, TV, and theatre at the University of Notre Dame, while running the campus TV station as executive producer. She moved to LA 1 year ago, where she has been working on several films- short and feature-length- in various roles. "The Violent Young" is her first feature film as producer, and she is excited to bring such a unique, important, character-based film to life.

"This story carries such an important message, and is led by strong female characters, so I am ecstatic to be part of the team that makes it come to life."
We will begin production as early as January of 2017 and shoot the movie over the course of 27 days around the beautiful Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. To make this happen, we need to raise the necessary funds to cover physical production - essentially the budget we need to go out there and make this story come to life.

Risks and challenges
Even with a micro-budget, producing a feature film is always a challenge, but it is a challenge we are ready to accept. ‘The Violent Young’ is clearly an ambitious project, as we aim to shoot on location for almost a month straight, but we are fully prepared for the challenge.
Pre-production and detailed planning are key in the professional filmmaking process, and we’re putting all of our focus on proper preparation to make sure everything goes smoothly. We have an incredibly talented and passionate crew that can’t wait to bring this project to reality.
Every dollar raised through this campaign will go straight into the production and post-production of the film. As a group of filmmakers holding ourselves to the highest standards in our field, we set out to prove that even with very little money, we can make an incredible film that looks like it cost much more.
Thank you for joining us on this adventure! We can’t wait to share the story with you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
