The Dragoon Universe
Downward takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where mankind has begun reforming itself into a new society following the fallout of a massive nuclear conflict. As humanity struggles to rise from the ashes it finds itself the prize sought after in a war fought between two races of titanic proportions. On the one side are the Guardians, sentient machines who are as frightening as they are logical. On the other side are the Dragoons, bio-engineered super soldiers whose entire culture exists around martial perfection. As this new conflict tumbles out of control, humanity's new-found innocence is lost and its fate hangs in the balance.

Downward is a story of loss and forgiveness, a drama masked within a sci-fi film. Themes of death and warfare are explored within the context of grief. The film hints at the additional hope of a brighter future after loss and perhaps, new love.
The film focuses on Claire, the wife of a human soldier who enlisted to fight alongside the Dragoons. When he is killed in a skirmish by insurgents, Claire is informed that his body is unrecoverable due to its location. Unwilling to accept this, she desperately searches for a way to find his remains, even going so far as to enlist the help of a Dragoon to guide her through the war-zone to the location of the battle.
As a 20 minute short film, we hope to use Downward as an entry point into this vast and complex world. We already have craftsmen and artists from around the world helping to bring this film to life. But we need your help to go further!
All donations will be going directly into the cost of production and since this is a science fiction piece, there are a lot of different expenses we have to tackle.
Blue Realm Studios has been building professional custom props and specialty costumes since 2008. You can see some of their work in a Halo 4 Commercial where they made a full-size replica of Master Chief's armor!
They have already been working on Kirkland's Dragoon armor for over a month and we are very excited to share some updates soon!
Check out an update on how they're building the Dragoon Helmet!
Composer: Steven Coltart (http://www.coltartmusic.com)
Previously the lead composer for ‘Outer Empires’, the first MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game of its kind created for iOS, Coltart recently signed to a New York-based agency composing music for TV and Film, with clients including Warner Brothers, Universal Studios, Paramount, Fox, Discovery Channel, Fox and HBO. ’Outer Empires’ eventually went on to sell over 200,000 copies, boasting the largest ever network of players on a mobile device at that time.
Our goal of $15,000 is the bare minimum to produce this project. If we surpass it, we will be able to provide better production design and visual effects that will improve the overall look and feel of the film. We fully intend to put the funds into creating the best film possible.

Through Downward, we are introducing the audience to this world we have envisioned. In addition to producing an entertaining film, our goal for this project is to raise enough interest and awareness that we can continue to create more films and even branch out into other visual media such as graphic novels.
Risks and challenges
As we are making an introduction to an entire world, one of the major challenges is to make an informative and engaging short film. We feel through the action, story, and visuals we can overcome this obstacle and make people interested to see more. However, there are unpredictable risks in making films such as this so we are trying to be as prepared as possible. By donating to this film, you are equipping our skilled and dedicated crew to make the best possible quality production.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
