HUGE UPDATE: Adding Single Player Campaign and Offline AI Bots, Tommy Jarvis, New Map - Packanack Lodge, and much more!!!

Posted by Randy Greenback - Gun Media (Creator)

Project Update

Let's get right down to it... This is a HUGE update and we have lots to talk about.

We at Gun Media and IllFonic are very proud to announce that we're going to be able to give everyone that pre-ordered the game, and all those that buy the game from here on out, the most-often requested features and content!

Friday the 13th: The Game will feature the multiplayer experience that we've been building to date; but we're also announcing that we're adding a single player experience and the inclusion of AI bots!!! We've heard it from many fans on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, our own Forums, Reddit, in person at various conventions... You want offline play and Single Player, and we've listened and found a way to accommodate it in the budget and our schedule.

While the addition of Single Player and AI Bots means a bigger game for all, they also mean a delay from a Fall 2016 release window to a new launch window scheduled for Spring 2017. Gun Media and IllFonic will use the time to lay down the groundwork for the single player experience while continuing development of the multiplayer portion with additional content that we're about to talk about below.

The Lowdown On The New Additions!
The Lowdown On The New Additions!

We're also announcing that Tommy Jarvis will return to Camp Crystal Lake as a playable character! As you all likely know, Tommy Jarvis is featured in multiple films in the franchise and is one of Jason's main protagonists and he'll return ready for battle.

We have a big new map to announce too! Today we're revealing that Packanack Lodge is our 3rd playable map that we'll be offering in the multiplayer game. Fans can return to the scenes of Friday the 13th: Part 2 and play out their own horror movies in legendary film locations.

Release Schedule

The release schedule is roughly as follows:

  • Fall 2016: Beta Release including 4 additional beta keys for friends when pre-ordered (KS Backers will get an additional 4 beta keys for their friends as well)
  • Spring 2017: Multiplayer Release with Tommy Jarvis and Packanack Lodge as the third playable map
  • Summer 2017: Single Player Release and Offline AI Bots

Here is a quote from Gun Media studio head & co-creator Wes Keltner. "The first thing people are going to read here is 'delay. We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives. We've been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn't ignore our fans. After securing funding, we're here to tell you that it is a reality and we're making this game even bigger. It sucks that there's a delay, but the wait won't be too long and it's going to offer more for fans in the long-run!"

As of today, we're happy to announce that all those who believed in the game and have already backed or pre-ordered to support the game, those individuals will receive single player for free when the game releases. No additional charges.

The new price of the game henceforth will increase from $30USD digital to $40USD digital, and the physical copy will remain priced at $60USD. We believe that digital prices should include a savings for those that purchase them, and those that want to hold a physical copy in their hands can pay more for it, since it costs more to produce, manufacture and distribute. It's logical and we at Gun Media scratch our heads when we see digital pricing for games that matches the physical pricing.

Beta Coming This Fall (4 Free Beta Keys for Friends)

Later this Fall we will be releasing the Beta for Friday the 13th: The Game! Every KS backer that backed the game and will be getting a beta key will get 4 additional Beta keys to give out to friends. Kickstarter Backers will get access to the Beta earlier than anyone else.

All pre-orders that have been made to date and any that will happen from here on out until the Beta will also get 4 additional Beta keys for their friends.

Virtual Cabin Update

There is no Virtual Cabin update this week, but we'll return on Friday Oct. 21st with one. Look for new Counselors, and another surprise next week!

BackerKit Pre-Orders

We'll be charging pre-orders and running cards on the last Friday of every month from here on out until we ship the game. If you've pre-ordered anything from BackerKit recently (since June 8th) you'll be getting charged and having your order locked in. If you were charged during Kickstarter, or back anytime before Friday Sept. 30th, then you will NOT be charged again. I repeat, if you were already charged, you will not be charged again. This reminder is only for those that pre-order between now and Launch.

This Friday, October 28th, credit cards will be charged. Every last Friday of every month will also have cards charged.

Get your orders in for any add-ons you may be looking to pick up. You can still update addresses yourselves as well, so keep that in mind.

If you need to change the platform you ordered your game on between now and launch, please contact us at

If bots for offline mode are useless to you, you're one lucky guy to always have 7 others online and your own servers to play the game on in years to come.

The Beta was always stated as being for PC, have you seen how few companies actually hold console Beta's? There are good reasons for that.

And if you haven't noticed the sheer volume of people begging for a single player mode, your head must be in some very deep sand. If half of us have to wait a bit longer so that all potential players of the game can be satisfied, it's well worth it, as it guarantees a longer lasting experience, more success, more chance at sequels/DLC's/future releases, all for some patience.

As a console player, I get that it sucks to see PC owners able to do stuff we can't. However, hold the right people responsible: Microsoft and Sony, for their strict regulations and expensive demands.

      A couple questions here:

      1) Wasn't there supposed to be some updates and a surprise last week? That's what this post said.

      2) So backers who backed this on console get beta keys for PC? So, myself and the other person I bought a copy for their birthday (both of us don't have PCs to game on) are just SOL till it gets released? You can imagine my frustration right?

      3) I fully believe this game is coming out, but why are you trying to make it look like the single player thing is causing the delay? If there can't even be a console beta the game must be pretty far away from completion.

I love what you guys are trying to do. I appreciate how much work goes into making a game. I'm not blind to these things. Yet I hope you understand the disappointment in someone who backed a specific idea and product, had it delayed because you wanted to change it, and the... compensation (I guess that's the right word) for the delay is useless to said backer.

I don't mind you wanting to add to your idea. Especially when some people are vocal about wanting a feature. I actually applaud the ambition. I do however mind that the ambition comes at the expense of what we agreed to back and those of us on console are essentially getting a shoulder shrug while others get to at least play some of the game we all supported.

So is this ( an email address or something? i need to change platform but wanted to make sure.

    4. Sam "Savage" Cash on

Yes, giving everyone a bigger, longer lasting, more complete experience is so lame...

      *rolls eyes*

    5. Craig MacLachlan on

Fantastic update! So excited especially for single player mode! You all ROCK! Obviously rewards will be postponed since a lot are actual physical games or game codes, etc. Myself I have the steel game, other stuff and 2 art books. Are the art books postponed as well until everything is completed? No biggie if they are just curious! Thank you to all of the team members for such an outstanding job so far.

    6. Bobby Gomez

This is great news! I don't mind the delay at all. Take your time and keep up the great work!

    7. Randy Greenback - Gun Media Creator

@Richard Ahlquist: I will assure you that the game is not vaporware. I've been in the game industry professionally for over 23 years and the game is very much real. None of us would throwaway our careers like that, it's just not logical.

We're all fans of F13 & Jason at Gun and Illfonic. We're getting to do something insanely rare here, we got the license for the biggest horror franchise on Earth and we want to make it as amazing for everyone as possible. Our hope is for the game to please fans who've been pining for a good game to come from it, and to reawaken the franchise for an all new generation so that it can continue on for many years to come. Hold tight, more screenshots, reveals and videos (even livestreams) will be coming in the near future.

    8. Randy Greenback - Gun Media Creator

@Turv3y: Yep, you'll be getting the PC Beta codes too.

    9. Randy Greenback - Gun Media Creator

@Andrew Elbaneh: I'll help resolve the issue.

How long have we been waiting for a good Friday the 13th game? Some of the older fans have waited since the original movie has been released which is 36 years. When you look at it that way a few months more shouldn't be a make or break situation. To me what matters is the final product. I don't care how long it takes as long as the game turns out to be the Friday the 13th experience we all have been hoping for. If they wanna take a few extra months to give the fans who either don't like online MP games or who have bad internet connections an option to play offline then I don't see a problem with that. It will open up their potential target audience.

    11. Fuzzy Lumkin

As an early backer, i'm also pretty bummed about this, its already been a year wait, now we have like another year to go, however, i am super glad they decided to include a single player campaign, and i guess as long as we get the beta keys early like the update said, that will be good. But Gun Media, would you guys consider throwing some sort of promos or something to the kickstarter backers since we;ve been patient and understanding about the delays?

    12. Andrew Gillis on

Not going to lie: I'm pretty bummed about this. Not so much the delay for the "full" game; take all the time you need to polish it up and add more modes to please the average, mainstream customer, fine. But... as an early backer I was supporting the original vision for the game as a multiplayer-only title, and I'm not entirely pleased that I have to wait for additions I could do without (as good or as bad as they turn out to be).

And even though the October date was never guaranteed, I thought for sure I'd at least be playing the beta (or even an alpha build) as a show of goodwill, even if the game wasn't ready for version 1.0 at that point. I even took a week off of work at the end of the month; not entirely to play Friday the 13th, but that was definitely in the itinerary.

I hope in the end the result is a better game overall for everyone and I'm still looking forward to it, but I'm feeling a bit deflated after reading this update.

Will I still get a steam beta key if I had pre-ordered for console in the kickstarter?
I hope so, My rig is more than capable I just have more friends on console.

    14. JEFF KRENN on

What do I need to do in order to ensure I'm included in and get keys for the Beta this fall? Would be happy to provide meaningful feedback in exchange for an early taste of the action.

    15. Sam "Savage" Cash on

      @Richard Ahlquist
If you thinking they're suddenly just tacking on something that takes that much intense effort and cost, just so they don't get judged for missing some arbitrary deadline, you're insane. They've clearly been trying to find a way to keep everyone happy, and have been considering doing this for months, but have only finalised the decision recently. Surely it's better to have a more complete game, with less likelihood of bugs/balance issues/etc. than to either rush it out and leave everyone dissatisfied, complaining about the investment that gave them a worthless product?

    16. Richard Ahlquist on

Wow! Awesome! Vaporware + MoreVaporware = Super Late Ultimate Vaproware! So you couldn't make the deadline, so in order to make it look like its for a good reason you "add" more features. Cant say I am happy about this. I guess its what I get for investing in something that doesn't exist "yet".

@Randy Greenback - Gun Media Hello i have been trying to get ahold of you for about 3 weeks now and i know you guys are very busy but, I updated my pledge on backer kit but i selected the wrong digital code. I accidentally chose steam, would i be able to change this? I chose steam because i thought this was a different game i backed and i would like to switch the games to ps4. i have multiple friends buying this game for ps4 and would like to play with them, so steam is useless to me.

    19. Carl Nelmes on

As if I wasn't already at fever pitch waiting for this game. This is AMAZING news. Single player/offline bots is only going to add to the longevity of the game IMHO. Fantastic.

    20. Jesse on

Take your time with this game. I feel that the PS4 & X Box One backers are getting the shaft when it comes to the virtual cabin and beta keys. I really want to play the beta with friends but I only have a PS4.

It's a big ol' delay but for very understandable and awesome reasons. I'm never against giving a project extra time for polish and features, as opposed to far too many sad situations where a game is rushed out and disappoints.

These additions will add a lot to the game's appeal and lifespan. I'm really looking forward to more news and the continuing evolution of this game. Exciting times!

      Woah this is great news.
If I'm being completely honest here, I'm not quite sure why I backed this initially since I've never been the biggest multiplayer fan. I've dabbled in L4D, Payday and killing floor but I prefer me a good singleplayer game anyday. I think the license and idea compelled me more than anything.
To now hear that a campaign mode is coming has reinvigorated my interest significantly!

Thank you all for your support! It's rare that devs get to announce that a game is getting bigger and better for everyone! Though that comes with a delayed launch, we feel that the benefits far outweigh the additional time. It sounds like you all agree. Our goal is still to launch the best Friday the 13th game possible, and honor this horror franchise with a great Multiplayer (and now) Single Player experience!

I'm more than okay with the delay of this game. I have loved Friday the 13th my whole life and it has always been my favorite all time horror franchise. I want the best Friday the 13th game that can be delivered and if it needs more time for polish and for extra content then please take all the time that you need. Nothing good ever comes from rushing a game out to market. Thank you so much to everyone over at Gun Media and Illfonic, I can not wait to get my hands on Friday the 13th, my most anticipated game of 2016 has now become my most anticipated game of 2017.

    45. Nicholas Brown on

You know what? Despite the fact that we didn't get much info regarding the beta and release dates, I'm still really hyped for this game so I'll gladly wait a few extra months for extra modes, and a few extra beta codes for my friends to play with me! Good on you Gun Media and Illfonic, and keep working to make a game we'll all enjoy! :)

    46. Nikkiwhat Crazy Backer on

Even though this has been one of the most unexpected and anticipated games (I'm a diehard Friday the 13th fan, have all the movies in the tin collector's case and have watched the movies religiously all year round) I can def wait longer for a better polished and game with better content. I was sad when we initially didn't get the single player content when the kickstarter was still up, I love playing against people as much as the next person, but sometimes I just like to enjoy a game without others distracting. Please, PLEASE don't fail us on this fantastic looking game, I hate the growing trend/stigma of Kickstarter games ending up mediocre!!!!
