Why a Video About Tagua?
Because Colombia is awash in negative stereotypes and stigmas, many people miss out on its incredible beauty and personal stories. Born and raised in Medellin, Colombia, Monica Farbiarz seeks to share a different story of her country - one that will show how it is trying to change and mend from the violence that continues to haunt it.
Monica believes that the Tagua seed from which her jewelry is made is making an impact on the country as it preserves vital rainforest land and gives employment to people who have little opportunity – especially in some of the smaller regions of the country.
“I want to show another face of Colombia - one of poetry, beauty and cultural exchange.I’m convinced that the way to bring peace is by providing people new possibilities of growth and by taking care of their communities and natural resources.”
What We Want To Do
Our long-term goal is to create a feature-length documentary, but in order to do this, we need to get to Colombia, hear the stories, see the effects in person and get an idea of just how great the impact is.
This requires travel to the places where the Tagua is grown, harvested and our jewelry assembled. We will need to travel to different regions in Colombia, stay in hotels, pay for airfare, car rentals, taxis, etc.
We would also love to employ someone local to help us film and edit the pilot.
Once the Pilot made, we will use it to apply for grants and help raise funds for the feature-length documentary.
The Pilot will also help us educate our current customers about how making conscious purchasing decisions contribute to a greater well-being for those who are responsible for its production.
We Need Your Support
It takes a village to help creative projects like this come to fruition. We cannot do it without you. We feel very strongly about this project because we believe that one's success is dependent upon the success of others and it is our life work to contribute in any way we can. Telling these stories and showing a new face of Colombia is a first step among many in our future and we thank you so much for your support and time.
Risks and challenges
Along the way, we totally expect to run into some snags, bumps, hiccups, etc, but we have a wonderful community surrounding us that come from all walks of life and all areas of expertise that we can lean on when we experience these rough patches. Most of the struggles we will have will be around budget and time, but we are very resourceful and confident that we can adapt quickly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
